“Very nice hotel. Excellent front desk”
We stayed at the Golden Tulip Altis Suites in Lisbon Jan 12-16, 2006. 3 of us shared a suite and it was perfect. The rooms were very large (especially by European standards) and well-equipped. Our suite consisted of a large living room w/ desk, foldout sofa, entertainment center and table with 4 chairs. There was a separate kitchen area which could be shut off from the other rooms. The bedroom had two twin beds and a tremendous amount of closet space. Bathroom had walk-in shower, bidet and towel warmer.
The hotel was very clean, although the daily cleaning was superficial and a little under par for a 4 star hotel. The thing that amazed me about this hotel was the women at the front desk-they were absolutely the best asset this hotel has to offer! They were helpful and informative. At 10:00pm one evening, one of them was able to book a private car for us for the next morning (and the guide she booked was extraordinary). They helped us find interesting places and were always willing to offer assistance with all our questions-they honestly made our trip a great one.
The Altis Suites are right next door to the Altis Hotel (literally 10’ walk from door-to-door)-and you will find a very nice pool and a coffee shop here. The location is about a 10 minute walk to the subway and that will take you almost anywhere you need to go. The location is in a very safe, clean area of Lisbon and quite close to all activities. There is a free shuttle from the hotel to the airport, but it only runs a few times a day. The taxi is about 12-18 Euro (we unfortunately encountered a dishonest taxi driver upon our arrival to Lisbon-he didn’t start the meter and charged us 24 Euro…Live and Learn-INSIST they start the meter!).
DON'T waste your time or $$ on Gray Line City Tour-I think a private tour would be much better...just felt like the important points were not mentioned.
