“Hard to find but worth the effort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

A beautiful, classy hotel within the castle walls. The staff were superbly helpful, and the whole place ca and peaceful. There were peacocks everywhere, giving it an extra touch of difference. The room was also very comfortable, with complementary bottle of port.

Very nice boutique hotel situated next to the Castle grounds but in a nice quiet part. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Loved the free tea and coffee and snacks they made available all day. Honesty bar was also a nice touch. Streets in this area are all cobbled so flat shoes highly recommended and there are some quite steep hills. Peacocks live in the castle grounds and sit on the surrounding walls of the hotel, lovely to watch. Very comfortable beds, bath as well as shower, and lovely decoration in keeping with the old property. Breakfast was very nice and plenty of choice. Could find nothing wrong with this hotel, would highly recommend

Room Tip: Best rooms overlooking the court yard high up view over the castle grounds and city

Heaven In a boutique hotel in what used to be the Kings kitchen some 200 years ago.
Higher than here you can`t go and right next to the castle, serenety and abience in a perfect setting. With live sound effects from the nearby Peacocks that still live in the Kings garden in and around the hotel.
A quiet courtyard with tables in the sun or shadow for your breakfast time, which by the way runs all the morning until 12.00. A glass of sect to start with followed by many enjoyable and good quality things that made breakfast time a pleasure.
The attentive but descrete staff, the cleanliness, the comfort and the quietness contributed to making this a really enjoyable stay.
We will come again for sure, because the town offered so very much in terms of history, good food, freindliness and good prices.

Room Tip: 17 small but comfortable, balcony with sea view, good price.

perfect location, beautiful room, terrific staff -- all in all excellent stay. staying on the hill near the castle is only a short (and cheap) cab ride to the other parts of town and is such a quaint and unique place to spend a weekend.

From the moment we stepped into this little gem we knew that we would love it! The hotel is tucked alongside the walls of St George's Castle high up in the historic Alfama district at the top of a maze of tiny cobbled lanes decorated with washing lines and cages of chirruping canaries, budgies and finches - the real Lisbon!
All staff were particularly courteous, professional and friendly. Everyone we met went out of their way to make our stay memorable.
Our 'boutique' room was tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The bathroom was spotless with excellent Moulton Brown toiletries, fluffy white towels and hot water at all times.
Breakfast was amazing and served from 0800 until midday in the most elegant lounge. Wide choice and continually refreshed. There are no tea/coffee making facilities in the bedrooms as the management have decided to offer complimentary teas and coffees (from a Nespresso machine) in the lounge at all times, accompanied by home made biscuits and local pastries - a brilliant idea! (They also offer a complimentary decanter of wonderful port in the bedroom!).
Peacocks from the castle visit the hotel courtyard daily and provide a lovely distraction to those enjoying the sunshine and peace of the ancient surroundings.
A truly wonderful and elegant hotel with a real WOW factor!

Room Tip: Every room we saw has its own individual charm

Fantastic place! Great staff and the room small but perfectly formed. Location is stunning...shared walls with the castle and peacocks all around. Great breakfast and the honesty bar is a great idea. We will definitely be back.

....certainly book it if you love ancient stuff in a modern setting. The use of modern woods all over the hotel contributes to a very warm finish. Rooms had everything needed. I could see the castle from my window.
All in all: Excellent.
PS: Wifi was sporadic the first night but worked well after that.

Room Tip: Lower rooms good internet. Room 20 good view in night of castle.
