“It was great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2013

My Husband and I and our 19 year old Daughter have just spent 3 nights here and i would recommend this hotel if you are planning a trip to Lisbon.
We spent 3 nights here but i think we could have done it al in 2 nights.

The hotel is in a really great position to explore Lisbon, we couldnt have found a hotel in a better area.

The staff were really lovely. The reception was a bit busy and had to wait a long time. The check in was a bit manic.
Our room was a bit dated but i think other rooms have been modernised more than ours but it was a good size for a city room. Our daughter s bed was a sofa bed and was tucked away from ours so it didnt feel like we were all on top of each other.
The roof top bar was amazing with white sofas everywhere. They serve really nice cocktails and bring crisps and nuts to go along with them. It also has great views over the city.
We ate in the hotel for the buffet night which is served in an outside area and had the sardines cooking away in front of us, it was good value for money and the wine was included in the price.
The Breakfast was really good.
I am sure that there are many nice places to stay in lisbon but it was good enough for us.
I must say its been a few years since I have been to a hotel where its sheets and blankets not a duvet but the next hotel in cascais was the same so maybe thats the way things are done. We then went on to the area of cascais in portugal for the next 3 nights which is really lovely, you can do it as a day out as its only 30 min away but it is worth a stay and the hotel Baia was right over looking the beach and was great as a basic hotel, but average breafast.

Room Tip: not the 4th fllor as i dont think these rooms have been upgraded yet, it was all a bit green.

We were placed in the Mundial for a two day add-on to a Voyage Jules Verne cruise up the Douro River. The hotel is very well situated, within easy walking distance of the central areas. The staff were without exception courteous and helpful. I would single out a young blond lady on reception (I did not get her name but she first wore glasses and then did not !) and Ruben, a Porter as being exceptionally helpful. All the staff in the 8th floor restaurant were fantastic.

They let us look at several rooms before deciding which to take. The room was very acceptable at first viewing, with a nice bathroom, including a bath. Unfortunately we were to find out that the air-conditioning system was effective but very noisy. As the weather was very hot and there was traffic noise we needed this on. It may have been only our room. More and more I find that hotel air-conditioning is noisy, worn bearings on the fan seeming to be the cause. Maybe Trip Advisor should take this up with manufacturers!

The breakfast appeared to have a lot of food, but was actually uninspiring in its variety. However the 8th floor restaurant served food to match the splendid view. Quality choice and service all first class, highly recommended. I would give this restaurant 5 stars.

Overall a large busy well positioned but very acceptable hotel which I would use again.

Room Tip: Ask to see the room and switch on the aircon to see how noisy it is.

On arrival we passed through three receptionists who all looked blankly at us when we said we had a reservation despite having received an e mail confirmation from them the day before looking forward to welcoming us. When we finally had someone to book us in he was just plain rude. We were also expected to pay for the room up front in full which is most strange. i usually pay at the end of my stay perhaps some people move on after one night and i can well understand why.

The room was ok clean but dated. The bed was brick like in fact it was so hard might have been better off on the floor. Just for fun the two pillows were even harder. If you like laying corpse like on a slab this is the place for you.

On the positive side there was loads of room and wardrobe space with plenty of hangers.
I think the worse aspect of this hotel is the noise. When we arrived after a very long flight we wanted to have a rest before going out to find somewhere to eat but the noise from the street was deafening. I checked to see if the window was in fact open but it was locked tight. It went on for ages. I have attended many festivals where the music has not been as loud. In the end gave up and went out. The location of the hotel is great for all the sites and easy access to all the bars and restaurants. On the return much later to the hotel the music had stopped but the noise from the street prevented any meaningful sleep. To make matters worse we had people shouting in the hotel corridors at 2:30 in the morning. With some one banging on the door. Not good. This type of late night hilarity was a theme of the three days.
The next morning we were woken at 06:00 by the staff dragging the breakfast room chairs which are metal across the tiled floor our room was located above the breakfast room. Screeching!!!!

Breakfast was a good buffet style and very busy as the hotel appears to cater for large groups who all want to eat at 8:30 ish so I would advise either early or late.
Check out was also not a great experience again by rude. Not even did you enjoy your stay. I would imagine the staff are so tired from staying awake.

Room Tip: Stay away from the front

Big hotel in central Lisboa with busloads of tourists. Our room on the 7th floor was clean and had nice views of Liboa. The buffet breakfast included in the price was ok. The hotel is within walking distance to everything. There is Wi-Fi but it is not free. We found the front staff either rude or not knowing enough English to communicate. Pointing a finger to indicate a bulletin board without uttering a word in response to a question from a client is not acceptableThey need language or customer service training.

We stayed 5 nights and had therefore one meal and 5 breakfast included in our price. The meal in the restaurant was good. The deserts were fantastic. The reception staff was always helpful and spoke good english. We travelled as a family of 4 with 2 double rooms that were adjacnt and had connecting doors, so you didn't had to walk over the outside floor to get into the other room. I would stay there again.

Room Tip: all rooms were quiet, ours was to the side street and you could not hear a thing.

for our 3 days in Lisbon the hotel was fairly good, very central, rooms big enough and clean, breakfast nothing special and sufficiant; in general, apart of the roof launge, this hotel has seen better times; however, what really made me somehow mad was the unpolite staff they have; especially the ones at reception - unbelievable; you do not feel like a guest, but like somebody disturbing; when checking out I was about to say sorry for having to pay my extras; I even had to ask for a tacker to attach my credit card voucher to the invoice... holy cow; they really should be happy to have a job and earn money every month; it s the guest who brings him this income!!!
