This hotel was OK but nothing to write home about. The best thing was the restaurant on an upper floor, which has spectacular, 3-sided views of the city. Eat there right when it opens to watch the sun go down; it's great. The food was good, they had menus in English, and the wines are good and reasonably priced (the latter being typical of Portugal, we found.) The breakfast was included in the room and was served in a bustling but clean & light-filled room. The food choices were pretty decent and the coffee was great. The room was average, fairly clean, although there was a pile of somebody's cigarette ashes behind the night stand, when it was supposedly a non-smoking room. Even though it was our honeymoon, we were given double beds, made up separately and pushed together. The bellman that took us up very helpfully tried to get this changed, but no other room was available. This happened in both hotels we stayed in in Portugal, so it may be local custom. The elevators are small and crowded. The bar was fairly nice , although always filled w/smokers like most spots in Portugal. We were able to get help in English when we needed it. On balance, the hotel is fine, but not great. We only stayed there 2 nights; if I were staying any more I'd definitely want a room with more to offer.
