So this hotel does exactly what it says on the tin! It is very clean as there is always cleaning staff on hand, the reception staff were very polite and gave us really good recommendations on places to eat and how to get around.
If you are into opera then the hotel has a few performances on weekend evenings and during the week there was an English singer accompanied by a piano to entertain people.
The whole hotel has a opera theme - the pictures, decor etc. I would say this is more of an adult hotel, not very ideal for those with young children.
The breakfast buffet was really good - a selection of breads, wide variety of fruit, cereals, fried breakfast, juices etc.
They do charge for the use of the swimming pool - it was 7.50 euros for the use of the gym and pool for the day. Although this included any fitness classes you wanted to participate in.
The only let down of the hotel was the fact that it is not possible to get a room with the view of the bridge or Lisbon, or the Christo Rei. The way in which they have built the hotel does not accommodate for these views and rather the rooms are under the bridge. When we arrived we did ask to change rooms because of our view, and the reception staff kindly showed us the different rooms available. The sheer noise from the room closest to the bridge was unbelievable. It sounded like haunted ghosts! And that is without the train that travels across it running past every 15 minutes. The room we had was very clean, had a great bathroom and although the view was not amazing, it was absolutely above average. If you are visiting Lisbon to sight-see then you will not be spending much time in the room anyway!
All the rooms are non-smoking as well.
Across the road is the docks. It is a strip of bars and restaurants generally catered towards tourists. The only problem is that the road is made up of two dual carriage ways and you cannot cross the road directly. You have to take a 5 minute walk down the road and cross at a foot bridge and walk back up the road. A little scary late at night.
Overall the hotel is highly recommended.
Enjoy!

“Great Hotel!!!!”

Vila Gale Opera Hotel

Have just come back from a 4 day break with hubby and a 15 month baby. The hotel could not do enough for us, even gave us free milk for the little one's bottle.
The lobby was beautiful and the restuarant was fab!! Try the buffett, it's great value for money.
The hotel is not close to the centre and we did need to take taxis everywhere as we had a pram with us, but as taxis in Lisbon were quite cheap it was not a major problem.
i would reccomend an evening at the docks close to the hotel. There are some great bars and restuarants there and the seafood was delicious.
Only moan about Lisbon is the fact that the people are not very friendly and it can be difficult to communicate with people. Also, don't go to Freeport, the shopping centre in Alcochete, it's not worth it!! Better to go to Amoreiras in the centre of Lisbon, better value, close and you can do it as part of the open tour hop on/off bus.
Also, the Tower of Belem is a must see.

The hotel was of a very high standard with attentive staff. The decor was original with rooms following the musical theme. Live acts were to be found in the lobby area every evening, although rooms had satifactory sound proofing top ensure that the music did not disturb guests in their rooms. The restaurant served a variety of nouvelle cuisine which was delicious if not a little pricy compared to restaurants in the surrounding area. However, a wide variety of restaurants and bars can be found along the docks, a short 10 minute walk away from the hotel. Transport links into and out of Lisbon are good and not too far from the hotelVisit the local restaurants and bars along the dock for varied cuisine at brilliant prices. The entire hotel was clean and comfortable. The staff spoke English and was very helpful. It was conveniently located to parks, restaurants, and a marina. Great view of the water and bridge!!

“Loved it completely, a nice home away from home”

Vila Gale Opera Hotel

Picked the location due to its proximity to the Egas Moniz hospital (visiting a patient there) Couldn't have asked for a more wonderful experience. The room was clean, modern, sleek, fully functional. The breakfast in the restaurant (included) was absolutely fabulous every day of my 2-week stay. The bamboo and ornamental grass garden on the grounds was lovely to walk through, too.

The staff was way way over-the-top wonderful. One night after I'd been there a week, a desk clerk came over to me in the lobby lounge (where I was surfing the Web on my laptop) and after verifying my identity, said, "your husband would like to talk to you" and handed me the phone. WOW!!! The entire staff was wonderful. I was not a rich and famous guest, just a normal person, but they treated me like I was royalty every single day. I can't say enough good stuff about them.

The lobby/bar/reception area is beautiful, and I enjoyed the evening concerts. The lounge food is great, too. Location is quaint, a little off the beaten path but perfectly safe. Neighborhood is quite homey, too, and public transportation is a snap.

My ONLY complaint (small) is that Internet is only available for really expensive rates in the room, or mildly expensive wireless rates in the lobby. Instead, head a few blocks down Rua Junquiera to the library or the wonderful cafe KAI and get free internet access.

Overall, though, I highly recommend the hotel due in large part to the wonderful staff--every single one of them was great!
