“The best aquarium I've ever been to!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

Title says it all really. This is easily the best aquarium i've ever been to. The central tank is massive and there are viewing windows all around it at different levels so everytime you come to one you are able to see a different part than before.

They also have penguins, sea turtles and otters!

Its a bit of a drive from the centre of town but its on any of the sightseeing bus routes so its easy to use that as your way there and back again.

The food it the restaurant isn't bad either.

“Old, Dated but educational.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

This aquarium is situated in Alges, just outside Lisbon and very near Belem area easy reachable by train (Alges Station), and tram (last stop). The surroundings are very beautiful, with several gardens, palaces, mansions and with the Tagus river just across the street. The building itself was built to house the oceanographic collections from King D.Carlos, dating from the early 20th century, hence its a palace type museum with 2 floors, and now actually managed by the Portuguese Navy. The entrance fee is 4 euros per person, with access to all areas. I was there 20 years ago in a school trip, and sadly now everything was just the same.... The ceilings, floors, glasses, indications, texts and informations stayed just the same!!!! ( texts typewritten in old fonts, old pictures and handwritten graphics....), making it with a somehow decadent and awkward ambiance. On the first floor is composed by collection of stuffed sea animals their skeletons and a seashell and mussels collection (again with cardboard placard info...). In the ground floor there´s all the aquariums disposed by groups, like the "rivers", "oceans", "Madeira and Azores seas", "lakes".... a large old tank in the middle on a room houses a single sea turtle, the highlight of the museum is another tank (rather small tank for two large animals) where two rescued sea lions swim in circles... .
I think that "Oceanário de Lisboa" in Expo area provides a much more modern, educational and actual view of sea life for the same price.

“Tour around a central biomass and enjoy the species”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

Such a great aquarium and exhibit. Brilliant. The management should be very proud. Staff great and helpful. Exhibits well laid out and interesting. Great variety of species some I had not seen before. Spotlessly clean. Well done. So if you are in Lisbon you should make time to visit.

“Amazing experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013

A large main tank gave us welcome. The first image is striking and unforgettable. Sharks, stingrays, moray eels, many fish ... Small aquariums show smaller fish, octopuses, ... My 8 year old son was mesmerized!
