“Location, location, location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2008

We paid 250 Euro for a 5 nights` stay (with breakfast, though not a memorable experience), but being right in the heart of Lisbon, right next to "everything" made up for it. Hotel a bit run down, staff very friendly and English-speaking. Recommended for budget travellers who`d rather see more of the world than spend some nights in luxury.

Similar to other writers, yes the hotel is old fashioned, yes it could be updated and painted, but why? - everything is clean, staff are friendly and helpful, and its in a great little location

The room was large enough contained a tv, and although our bathroom was small, it worked and there was always plenty of hot water

The furniture was dated but functional

Breakfast was bread rolls, ham, cheese jam, corn flakes tea / coffee
no problems

The hotel is easy to find and in a great area for nightlife and restaurants and getting to see the sights, all at a good price

There was some noise through the night whilst i stayed, but i suppose that depends on whos around and whats happening

Taking all into consideration, good value for money and i would be happy to stay there again

The hotel has a prime location near Restauradores metro station and an aerobus stop.

However, it is quite shabby and noisy. Our room was next to one of the fabulous old elevators, which are quite amazing and fun to ride, but make one hell of a racket when trying to sleep.

The decor is dark and needs updating, the beds are not particularly comfy, and there is a large breakfast buffet and frankly what do you expect for €54 for a twin room in the centre of town.

I would probably stay again as I travel to Lisbon for the city, not the hotel. I would not book for a romantic trip though!

It´s a really fair price for the services you have. The hotel is very well seated in front of "Restauradores" Square and in walking distance from "Comércio" Square(the biggest in Lisbon). It´s easy to take the sightseeing bus and the bus to the airport too. The rooms are wide and the street is silent, the cable car to the high area of the city is by the side but its noise isn´t upsetting compared to the facility to take it. The breakfast is good with juices, different kind of breads, coffee, chocolate... The staf helps in what you need.

  • Liked — The good level of the hotel
  • Disliked — the little slope in the street to go up before the hotel entrace.

No frills; no special effects. . .they're just keepin it real. The rooms are clean; very basic. . .okay; they are dull. . .but the fun in Lisbon is outdoors and not in your hotel room. The hotel has a superb location; it near a busy shopping area and just down the hill from Baro Alto. The area is safe; but be warned; the hotel is nextdoor to a sex shop-peep show.
A big thumbs up here is they have quad rooms; really cool if you're a group of friends travelling. Book this hotel is you're looking for a clean and convenient place to stay, but if you want a romantic get away; look elsewhere.

We landed at Lisbon to be greeted by torrential rain. The taxi driver told us it hadn't rained for a month - great!
Our room was located on the second floor and was a fairly large room. Yes it was old fashioned, and yes it was a bit dated, but it was all very clean and everything worked! Yes you could only get the news channel in English, but who goes on holiday to watch TV? Breakfast was very basic, but then there are plenty of cafe's around to go and have something more substantial if you want.
The only problem we had was that windows had metal shutters which had a metal casing. When it rained it hit the metal casing making a terrible noise - surely this could be rectified in some way? I don't think anyone in the whole hotel must have slept if this was the case in all the rooms. I've never had this problem in any other hotel I've stayed in when it's rained with metal shutters?
Other than that the hotel is in a good location, right in the middle of Lisbon, well located for shops and restaurants. If you head down by Hard Rock Cafe there are some good restaurants all along the street there and they all seemed pretty good!
Use the public transport - it's cheap and regular (buses / trams - 1.35 euro whether you're going one stop or ten! Metro 0.70 euro within zone 1).
Also try taking the train from Sodre station to Estorial (1.65 euro), and then walk down the beach promenade to Cascais. A lovely little town on the coast.

At £36 a night and centrally located, beside the Elevador da Gloria, this hotel has to be considered, but it is difficult to enthuse about the ancient Suico Atlantico.
Basic accomdation is one thing, but be prepared for the almost monastic austerity of the bedrooms and the stygian gloom of the corridors.
The room was clean, but also small, shabby and dark. Sleeping was a problem, I'm afraid (and I generally sleep well), due to a rock hard bed and plenty of noise outside. The area close to the hotel is a lively one at night for lots of reasons. Thankfully, the street itself has no bars to encourage people to linger under your window (we were in a front bedroom) but there were plenty of revellers throughout the night passing by. The 6.30 street cleaning and dustbin collection alone would wake anyone.
The shower was old but hot and reliable, although the high steps up to ours might have impeded people with mobility problems. The small TV had four english speaking news and sport channels, though the remote was broken.
Public rooms were better. The breakfast room was large and airy. Food, served 7.30 to 10.00, was plain fare: cornflakes, slices of ham and cheese, coffee/tea, and fairly grim orange juice. Bread was good however: a basket of crusty loaves and brioche.
There is a reasonable TV lounge with a luggage locker room attached, in case you arrive early or have a late departure flight.
The bar is by far the best room, with stone hearth, lofty wooden ceilings and stained glass windows. There is also internet access from here.
The location is excellent for transport: the aforementioned elevador to Bairro Alto is right outside, buses (including the airport shuttle) are one minute away down on Restauradores Square (as well as a tourist office) and Rossio Station is two minutes on from there, for trains out to the coast.
Just don't expect too much sleep!
