Marques de Pombal is a funny location, at the wrong end of Avenida de Liberdad for most of Lisbon's things to do, but handy for the metro and the art museums, and the park, and just 15 minutes to walk downtown (or a 5 min, 4 Euro taxi ride). The hotel itself is, well, fine. It claims to be a 4 star, but really you should expect a standard 3 star experience. Clean lobby and friendly staff, if a little inefficient. Our room was small but pleasant, with the vibe of a business hotel. Adequately spacious though, with two armchairs and a little coffee table, as well as a desk. They frustratingly claim to have wifi in all public areas. By this they mean the lobby only. In the room, if you have a laptop, you can plug in for free internet access at the desk, but we found this less convenient than wifi. Rooms cleaned daily, and bathroom pleasant. Breakfast is a mediocre buffet, with the usual cereals/cheese/croissants/bacon and eggs/juice/coffee, which is fine. We'd hoped for better, as this hotel describes itself as a boutique hotel, which it really is not. But it's a good option if you get a good price on the rooms and aren't staying too long.
