My boyfriend and I recently stayed at the Ibis for four nights and overall had a good experience. This is a no frills, budget hotel with a basic room and only the essential amenities. The room was small but they used the space well with a tall closet and many shelves. The desk staff were always courteous and helpful. We had an issue one day with the plugs in our room, probably a fuse out, and they came and fixed it immediately. My only complaint was that the shower did not seem to be cleaned when we arrived but on all other days the room was cleaned perfectly. The location is convenient to the tourist attractions and there is a steep hill on the block the hotel is located on but since Lisbon is full of hills this just felt like one more to deal with.

“Clean and pleasant hotel to fit your budget travel plan”

Ibis Lisboa Liberdade

I'm just back from Lisbon where I spent 7 days at the Ibis Liberdade. I agree with previous reviewers. This hotel is a real bargain. Staff is friendly and helpful, rooms are very clean, hotel modern and comfortable. After booking via the hotel website, I phoned and asked for a room with a good view. The guy that answered told me that they had no 'particular' views from the hotel, but he would have tried to give me a nice room. Well, when we arrived we were so happy to see the Sè cathedral and the sea from our room !! A very pleasant suprise...
The hill might be a problem for elderly, but you can avoid the slope by using the Rato metro station which is just 300 meters from the hotel!
The Avenida Liberdade is one of Lisbon's main boulevard, with designers shops and four star hotels, but you'll have to walk to the bairro alto or chiado for a nice restaurant.
The only real problem is that there is a construction site just on the side of the hotel (they were demolishing a building!!) but works were starting after we had woken up and there was no noise at all at night. If you spend the all day walking around and sightseeing it's not bothersome, but some might get annoyed...
If you just need a nice place to shower and sleep, this is good choice.

“Ibis Liberdade”

The Ibis Liberdade has a several important features, firstly it is a known quantity, clean, cheap and reliable, but best of all is it's location within the city. Located 5 minutes walk from the Liberdade and no more than 10 from the Avenida Metro station. There a few pastry cafes within a few minutes walk but not many restaurants. Point to note it is quite a steep hill, so not for those with mobility problems unless you are driving. There is an underground car park. I can't comment on the buffet breakfast as we never ate in the Ibis. The buffet is 5 euro each. We had breakfast 'local style' for two for an average of 6 euro. I do not see the point of staying in an expensive room, we were only there to sleep. There was some building work underway next door but we were up before they started work and back after they had finished.

It is very easy to get around Lisbon with an excellent network of trams, buses and the metro. All are clean, efficient and do not hang about ! We bought a Lisboa Card (72 hrs @ 31 euro each) from the tourist info counter at the airport. This enables you to hop on and off any public transport as well as free entry to a number of museums and discount at other attractions. If you are not going to the museums then it may not be worth the cost. We did a few and the card paid for itself but the best benefit was the ability to hop on the next bus that came along even if it didnt actually go where we wanted! There is no need to hire a car to get around the city centre unless you like getting lost, getting stuck in traffic and spending hours finding a parking space!

Be warned pickpockets operate on the transport. Two were arrested on one of the trams we were on. They managed to pick the tram that passed by a Police station, so driver stopped outside to allow the passengers who had caught the thief to get assistance and escort him off !!

The sights of the city are all worth a visit, we managed to pack in as much as possible over 3.5 days yet did not get all of them in. It is worth getting to some of the venues early as they get crowded, such as the castle and the oceanarium.

Plenty of places to eat all over the city and even the expensive places were cheap by UK standards. If you like seafood, then this is the place. Main dishes were between 6-10 euro and house wine was around 5/6 euro a bottle. We did not bother with a starter as they always gave you cheese or ham and bread as part of the cover. The best and most expensive was a dressed crab, even then it was only 7 euro. Lobster and Tiger prawns are sold by weight as usual, 1Kg of Tiger Prawns was around 70 euro, Lobster around 100 euro.

An excellent city break location, but I could see it as a base for a longer holiday too, with easy connections to outlaying areas.

Weather in Early july according to the locals was cold, we had between 28 & 34c with a breeze on some days.

Usual Ibis affair. About the only thing that makes these places have any individuality is the staff, the rooms are just clones. Here I can say all the staff we came across were great. Very helpful and giving us all the tourist info we were after with a smile. They even rung us on the day of arrival to confirm we would be coming (or was this becasue they were full and had overbooked??) . Note, the breakfast area is small and finding a table can be tricky in the 'peak'. Breakfast is good though. About a ten min walk to the true centre or 2 mins to the metro. The steep climb to the hotel is nothing to worry about unless you are very unfit, elderly or disabled.

We stayed at Ibis Liberdade Hotel for 3 nights during the first week of May.
The location is a 10 minute mainly gentle uphill walk from the old-town, Baixa. It is located amongst many other hotels, but that is basically it - quiet at night and not many restaurants/bars/convenience stores within a 100m vicinity. The walk from the hotel is great, but not easy for the elderly returning to the hotel. Only cost under 10 euros to get from hotel to airport ( 10-15mins max taxi trip ).

Hotel: Standard ibis setup (basic 3 star ) with reception downstairs, simple and comfortable with common lounge. There are 9 floors in total, and we were on the 5th floor.
Rooms: Very basic room, but very clean. Double bed, desk, small window ( double glazed and sound proof ), closet, no safe, air con and heating available, and small TV with one english channel - CNN. Bathroom: bath with shower head, extremely clean, only two towels given ( no hand towels ), and a bar of soap and tiny bottle of shampoo provided. Shower pressure excellent and lots of hot water. Cleaned daily.
Price: 68 euros for a room - good value
Breakfast: only had it one morning, 5.50 euro per person. Lots of different breads, juices, cold meats, cheese and eggs, cereals. Better than average european continental selection. Also has mini portuguese egg tarts. There is a pastry shop a 5minute walk towards old-town which is good value as well.

Overall: Good price, recommended for value, would be nice to live in an area with a bit more outside and not too far to walk. However, anything closer expect to pay more, and there are many cheaper hotels which are further north and far away. At least we could walk to places, rather than the need to catch the excellent Metro.
