Like all Ibis Hotels we stayed at on our journey to Spain & Portugal, the Ibis chain of hotels provided good, clean accommodations with helpful staff. We got a King bed, shower, TV with CNN or BBC (with video audio jacks in the front). Rooms are smaller than a North American standard, but normal for Europe. Staff were excellent and friendly, and like all Ibis employees, they all seem to speak excellent English. Don't expect the Ritz, but a good Motel 6 type level of furnishings. It's worth noting that soap, shampoo and towels (replaced daily if you want) are supplied by the hotel. If you've stayed at one Ibis you've probably seen the furniture layout and quality for all of them in Spain and Portugal, all were carbon copies of the same for us. As your would expect of major chains, all credit cards are accepted. Rates are posted on the Ibis website and are exactly what's charged by the front desk.
The Ibis Lisbon Liberdade was in a great location, well withing walking distance to the Praca Dom Pedro and Praca do Comercio and all the shops in between! Be sure to check out the theatre vicinity around Restauradores for a restaurant (go figure) - an area of restaurants that inexplicably isn't mentioned in guide books. The hotel is conveniently located on the metro line - Avenida is your closest stop and from here you have easy access to the rest of the city and outlying areas (we connected to a train to Sintra in less than a 1/2 hour). A Mini Mercado is up the 5 minutes hill and right (ask the front desk for directions) were you can get fresh fruit and groceries. The much mentioned hill is certainly steep but it's not like you're climbing Everest here people. Lisbon is built on hills so you'd best get used to it if you're going to go. The hill is about 2 blocks long and the 1st part of the hill is fairly tame - it's not until the block that the hotel is on that it gets really steep, and I had a 45lb backpack on! Santa Apolonia train station is probably the closest one, I would recommend a taxi to get there you have luggage - it's a fairly long hike. The beautifully designed Oriente station is on the metro line though and can be ridden to the hotel no problem.
Overall, great value, and a great stay.
