There are some great deals out there on the internet - although I have to say that this hotel isn't one of them. The main area in the hotel is quite shabby, as are the rooms. The window in our bedroom opened out directly on to what looked like a bit of a building site, although at least the sight of several kittens playing behind a mattress (where they lived) was quite cute. That said, everything is quite clean and respectable, so if you are looking for a place to stay in Belem, you probably could do worse, but I'd guess you could do a lot better as well. Belem itself is lovely and definitely shoudln't be missed (the monastry, discovery monument and tower of Belem in particular). Although it's a long way out of town, a taxi from the bus station is only 13 Euros, and there is an excellent high speed tram service to the centre of town (although this does take half an hour or so). The hotel also apparently has a nice restaurant, although the prices and the fact that the breakfast was a bit grim (squash rather than real orange juice, over-processed sausages, that kind of thing) put us off eating there. There is a cute wee place next door though, which is great as long as you're not in a hurry.
Overall, I would only recommend this hotel if you want to stay in Belem, and have checked that there aren't any better hotels available. otherwise, I would recommend staying in the Le Meridien in the centre of Lisbon, which, particularly in August, is much better value. Still, you could do worse than this one.
