“Great choice in Lisbon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2009

The Sheraton is first class in every way. The staff, the rooms, the exquisite spa, the lobby are all most welcoming and beautiful. Although it is the tallest building in Lisbon, you don't get
a big hotel's anonymous feel. It feels pretty initimate, actually. The rooms are not the biggest, by American standards, but they feel luxurious due to beautiful decorating. The bathtub is six feet long and really deep. There is an electric hot pot to make tea or instant coffee, fluffy cottom bathrobes, and a comfortable leather easy chair. The beds are exceptionally comfortable. However, you cannot use the minibar for a fridge for your own stuff, because it is computerized and bills you if you move anything. The location is quite good, plenty close enough to everything you want to see, because Lisbon taxies are
not expensive and the metro is right by the Sheraton, also. Although the Sheraton's building is newer, the surrounding are is full of beautiful characteristic smaller buidings, full of lots of small cafes and even a great small supermarket called Pingo nearby. You can eat very reasonably and authentically in the cafes (called pastelarias) nearby, which are not simply bakeries but also serve the Portuguese equivalant of plate lunches, available for dinner, as well. I loved getting the local fresh grilled fish dinner, which is a small whole fish with boiled potatos and broccoli or green beans for
about 8 euros. Of course, you can also get the same meal at more upscale places and pay more for the same thing...we did that, too, and the fresh fish was wonderful every time. For breakfast in the little pastelarias, you
will pick pastries from the glass case, and your closest approximation of American coffee will be cafe con leite, which comes premixed with milk in a pretty small size cup...
even though you are ordering their largest cup! The cost for two persons, less than 5 euros. After a few mornings of this, getting an American style big carafe of black coffee with the milk in a little pitcher alongside at the Sheraton because a necessity (15 euros for pastries and two pots of coffee). Now then, is it worth it to pay for the Club Floor, which includes the lavish breakfast buffet and afternoon snacks for about $50 U.S. more? I peeked in the Club Room, it was pretty small and I did not see anybody eating snacks. It was full of airline personnel. However, if you are going to gorge on the breakfast buffet, it will cost you 23 euros each if you have not booked the Club Floor. There are five computers in the lobby that guests can use for free by getting the code from the reception desk, but internet in your room is not free. There is an upscale shopping mall diagonally across from the Sheraton. Having stayed previously at the York House and the Holiday Inn Continental, the Sheraton is the best choice. The York House is about the same price in a beautifully converted convent, but it does not provide equal services and the location, although more historic, is not more convenient.
The Holiday Inn Continental is much cheaper, but the location is much farther north of center near Campo Pequeno, and the quality of the furnishings is not what I expect of a 4 star. It did have English TV, coffee maker, and mini bar you could use for a fridge. It is a perfectly nice hotel in good condition, popular with business people

I stayed at this property last weekend and liked the hotel.
The room had a great city view and it was large and comfortable. The bathroom was nice and beautiful. The location of the hotel was good enough to be able to travel in the city either by metro or bus. Recommended.

We just got back from a long weekend trip to Lisbon. Overall, I thought the Sheraton was a very good hotel and an excellent value.

Check in went smoothly. We arrived early in the morning and was able to get a room immediately (a small pet peeve was a 50 euro charge for an early arrival, but well worth it and better then places that charge for a whole or half day). The rooms were modern, bed comfortable, flat screen tv with a good selection of langauges (close to 10 english speaking channels) and movies. The room included complimentary bottles of water (they were replaced after drinking) and a coffee maker. We were on the 20th floor (a club level room) and had an excellent view of the city. The room was very modern and had a nice amount of space. Closest thing to a complaint was the pillows were a little soft (and if that is the worst you can say, it must be pretty good).

The bathroom had a reasonable amount of counterspace and a nice shower with good water pressure.

We went to the club level one afternnon for snacks and wine. Room was comforable, wine was nice, and the selection of snacks ok . We did not go to the club for breakfast.

The concierge was helpful. They made dinner reservations in advance. I am not sure they were romantic restaurants (that is what I asked for) but the food was delicious and a good value. Concierge was also helpful about places to go and how to get there.

We ate breakfast in the lobby restaurant. A buffet, with a good size selection and good quality.

I liked the location of the hotel. It was close to the airport (only about 15 minutes) which was nice when leaving. It is a block away from a metro stop, a couple of blocks from a supermarket, and within walking distance from the center of the city. it is a good base to travel from.

The interior of the hotel is nice. The rooms are new and well furnished and of a high level. Bathroom is nice with the glass wall, it makes the room look a bit bigger. We arrived arround lunchtime (weekend) and we only could have lunch in the bistro (ground level) . The waiters are very kind but the quality food / price was not good. In the evening we went to restaurant Conventual and we were glad to see that it is possible a perfect price/quality level and to have a delicious meal.. In the morning we had breakfast buffet in the bistro (23 euro p/p). I don't eat much in the morning but i like to have a nice cafe and a fresh juice but I was surprised that a fresh juice is not served for this price. No live cooking, nothing special (only a bubble wine which was not opened and salmon as not standard products). A bottle of wine in the roof-bar bar is about 30 euro... cocktails can be expensive but a glass of beer or wine is about 6 euro.

Very nice, new hotel. Love the decor, especially the pianos in the lobby and Panorama bar. As other reviewers have stated, everything at this hotel is a la carte...pool, sauna, internet (very pricey at 18 Euro/day). Rooms are large, especially by Euro standards. All the high tech bells and whistles. Blinds in both the bathroom (see through glass partition between bath/shower and bedroom) and window are electronically controlled, took a few minutes to figure out where the controls are..(colleague on this trip thought she was lowering the bathroom blinds and ended up pulling the emergency cord, apparently her room did not have sticker on the cord). Everything clean and in good working order. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Upstairs Panorama bar/restaurant has great view, but I agree that drinks are extremely pricey. Location has many perks, great to walk to anywhere in the city center. Taxi stand around the corner and easy to take trolley. We really enjoyed our meal at nearby Adega do Teixeira, house red wine was excellent. Entire meal was a bargain. Would definitely stay at this Sheraton again.

  • Liked — Size of room, cleanliness
  • Disliked — everything a la carte and expensive

Very pleasant hotel. I stayed in a room with a fantastic view over Lisbon (and I expect many rooms have similarly great views as it's a high rise).

The bed was comfortable, the room was extremely clean and felt very luxurious. The ambience was a bit 'James Bond', with a dark carpet, electronic blinds and a glass bathroom - you could open or close the electronic blinds on that, too, depending on how much privacy you wanted!

I stayed on business and felt the room was a real haven of calm that I could retreat to. There was no noise whatsoever and it felt luxurious and relaxing. Nice marble sink, etc, everything very beautifully done and clean. The staff also seemed helpful. I did find myself wondering what on earth I would do on my honeymoon, if I am staying in such nice places for work!

I think we got a special rate, but I don't think I could normally afford the prices here. Certainly the mini-bar was well out of my reach, with prices I thought were extortionate! Not so fussed about the hotel buffet, though - although that was probably because I am vegetarian and Portuguese cuisine is not ideally suited...

All in all, a fabulous stay. Beautiful room, pleasant ambience, helpful staff. Downside? Probably the price, and maybe also the location (as I say, it wasn't an issue for me) - you may want to consider how important these are to you. But it was a lovely hotel...

  • Liked — The gorgeous room
  • Disliked — That I couldn't enjoy it more as I had to work!

We arrived at the Sheraton on Boxing Day. Efficient check-in. We had booked a room on the Club floor. Very nice room, on the 21st floor, with great views over the city. We took breakfasts in the main dining room, and the food was excellent, with a large choice. The staff throughout the hotel were almost always friendly, helpful and efficient.
The hotel is well located, about 20 minutes' walk from the centre; sometimes there's a short wait for taxis, although usually there are ones available in a rank outside the hotel.
Only two gripes;
1. One of the reasons for taking a Club room is access to the Club Lounge. You expect the complimentary drinks in the Club Lounge to be readily available, and when they're not, and you've pointed it out to the staff, for the matter to be remedied relatively quickly. It wasn't.
2. We were with some friends in the hotel's Panoramic Bar. Our total order was two local lagers, one brandy, two Jack Daniels and two glasses of sparkling wine, plus one club sandwich. Total cost 90 Euros!! Even before the pound sank to parity with the Zimbabwean dollar, that's still extremely expensive.

Recommendation, stay at this excellent hotel, but avoid having their overpriced drinks in the bar.

  • Liked — Good room, great views, mostly efficient and helpful staff
  • Disliked — Drink prices in the bar
