“If you need to stay in Lisboa, chose the Indépendant!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013 via mobile

We were 2 friends for a week in Lisboa.
We have chosen the independent and we were more than happy by this choice.
The location is perfect: you can visit all the city by walking and it is 2 minutes from bairro alto (bars, restaurants, etc)
The rooms are well decorated and vary spacious: so you do not have the feeling to be stuck with your other roommates.
The breakfast is ver good and served by very friendly staff in a lovely garden.
Our only negative comments would be the restrooms where there is not so much intimacy.
Overall, if we come again to Lisboa, for sure we will book this one and as we have already started to do so: we will recommend to all our friends to chose this hostel!

Wonderful service, they really care about customer service and making you happy. The hostel manager is a super lady and Ask Manuel for anything and he will help you out. Very helpful. Delicious breakfast. Excellent wifi. Hilarious yriple bunk beds! You will not regret staying at the independente!

The Independente Hostel is a lovely place!
The first we came in they already helped us very good. If you wanted to know where to eat or to go out, they gave you some adresses that they thought would be nice for you and made a reservation. During my holiday, I was feeling sick. I told the hostel that I was thinking to see a doctor and they immediatly helped me. They searched a hospital for me with a doctor who could speak english and they made an appointment for me. They were so helpful and I am really grateful for that. Although I was sick, I had a lovely stay in The Independente. The food was good, the interior was very beautiful but the thing that I will remember is that there work lovely and really helpful people! This hostel is a must!

We stayed at The Independente for 4 nights and got the 12beds Dorm with a group of 10. This was very nice: the room itself is clean and nicely decorated and we had enough of space. The bathroom was quite closeby and clean as well. We had breakfast included, which was OK, only one of us missed her Nutella!

We enjoyed staying in the Lounge for hostels guests. It is a nicely decorated room with enough space for all guests to meet and have a chat. The kitchen is well equipped (although a few extra plates and more cutlery would be nice) and the view over Lisbon is a nice plus.

The staff was very helpful (one of us got sick and they helped us get to a doctor - they even worried for her!). Also they gave us a lot of info!

The only thing that was a bit disturbing was the noise during the night. The noise coming from the bar downstairs and the lounge was at times very loud and since one of us was sick, this wasn't ideal. Better isolation could do the trick.

Over all we loved our stay here (it was our best hostel in Portugal)!
(location is also very very nice: right in the going out district)

Kind regars to the staff,
Marie-Gabrielle & the Belgian girls

Very nice and cosy hostel. Very clean and helpfull staff. I have booked via Internet and the pictures were not half that good compared to the real place.
Very nice bar and breakfast area. The breakfast is excellent in the morning.
I have never seen a better designed and furnished hostel.

We stayed in one of the suites which had a very nice view of Lisbon. The place is very nice decorated and the staff is enthusiastic and cheerful. Good restaurant with cozy atmosphere and affordable prices. In front of the hotel a nice park where you can have a cold beer while looking out over the city. There is a nice area just one block from the hotel with small streets full of restaurants and bars, perfect for strolling in the evening. We would love to come back!

Room Tip: For a couple I can really recommend one of the suites.

We paid the extra to stay in one of the private suites, it was quite expensive, but so are all the proper hotels in Lisbon, so this was comparable on price, but had the added advantage of an amazing location. The room was great and had a fab balcony. Yes, it's a bit rough aroudn the edges....but that's what shabby chic is! It was exactly as it looked on the website, so this is what we were expecting.

Amazing location, great bar with live music, fab restaurant with absolutely amazing local food at a fab price! Make sure you book, as it is super busy! The breakfast was delicious (and excellent quality for a hostel).

Loved, loved, loved this place :-)
