“Beautiful interiors, excellent fare and inexpensive!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2011

We went for dinner to Zafferano and had a delicious meal, everything we ate was great, good italian food. We are frequent travellers to Italy and felt the food was good enough to be served in an Italian taverna anywhere in Italy. We would certainly return if we have a chance!

“Rich flavours of true Italian foods”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2011

We stumbled across this restaurant during a leisurely afternoon stroll in the area. It is easily reached from the Baixa-Chiado Metro station and there are numerous other attractions nearby. we returned about 1930 hours and were not surprisingly the first customers of the evening. Our waitress gave a friendly welcome and provided menus that had an English translation. I noted that the website did not have that advantage so my hastily scribbled toes were not required. The couvert arrived in the form of hot ciabatta with tapenade and olive/balsamic mix. All were very tasy and worth the €2 per head. The soup of the day was not available and the explanation was that hot soup is not popular in this weather. Refreshingly honest. We chose three of the selection of bruschette €6.50, along with a white port, and found them to be delicious. Our mains were Penne all’Amatriciana and lasagne. We selected a bottle from the recommended reds and it was most agreeable. The penne had a rich sauce and plenty of bacon. I calculated that I was served roughly 32 square inches of lasagne, which was piping hot and unctuous. Deserts we never going to be an option so we settled for coffees. Total, including 10% tip was €60 and worth every penny. Service was casual but attentive. Apparently business picks up later in the evening so our dining time suited us. Decor is very pleasant, give it a go.

Solid Italian food with nice ambience. Servers were efficient and spoke English. Fairly priced. Recoommended.
