“One of the best Lisbon Restaurants”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2014

Great food, great wine, best Restaurant riverview location in Lisbon!
I had lunch in the wonderful terrace and a few days later dinner indoors. On both occasions the food was great and the service spotless!
The theme of the restaurant is based on Darwin's theory of the evolution of species. This Restaurant is located at the world class scientific Research Center called Champallimaud Centre for the Unknown. You will enjoy the place and the food and help raise funds for new treatments against cancer!
As a bonus you will be close to the main tourist sights in the Belêm Area of Lisbon.

“Beautiful views, great atmosphere & good food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2014

I can't imagine there is a better place in Lisbon for fantastic views and a leisurely lunch.

I had booked a table for 10, but there was a mix-up with the time - but the staff at Darwin's were incredibly helpful and got our party to an amazing outside table.

The food was fresh, tasty and carefully created - and make sure you leave room for dessert, which was a definite highlight.

With views over Torre Belem and the Tagus, it's a beautiful space and definitely worth a visit if you're in Belem.

“Stay away from the red sangria”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2014

The view is very good and the food also, but a little bit on the expensive side. Good service but horrible red sangria. Shall return, I'm sure.

“A wonderful experience in a beautiful setting!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2014

Darwin's Café is the bar and restaurant opened by the Fundação Champallimaud, a scientific research foundation created by will of one of Portugal late millionaires. The restaurant, as well as the Foundation buildings, is located at a beautiful corner of the River Tagus, in Lisbon (Tejo), and its wonderful bar and terrace overlooks the estuary of the river, offering a wonderful view of the river, Lisbon's 25th of April Bridge and the Christ statue. The restaurant's beautiful decoration and motives are related to the scientific researches of Mr. Charles Darwin. The staff is kind and attentive, and the food's tends towards fusion food, using several portuguese traditional ingredients with modern tendencies, with touches of foreign inspiration here and there (like in the most expensive of the dishes loinsteak with foie gras and pumpkin's jam with dried fruits risotto). That is, though portuguese, it is also an internationally inspired cuisine. The servings are generous, not yet entirely nouvelle cuisine, which helps, because one does get to eat (a little too much in fact, if you go through the whole experience, that is starters, main dish and dessert). The desserts are big and tasty, colourful and imaginative. The wine list is excellent and varied, with great wines included. In all a full meal per person (that is starters, main dish, dessert, water and wine) goes for an average total of €50,00 which are really well-spent. One can cut it down by having only the main dish, some wine and sharing a dessert, because the servings are really more than enough. I loved it and will surely be back. If you're having dinner just sit on the comfortable sofas at the bar outside and enjoy a drink and the wonderful view. I give it a 4 because there is no 4,20! This is the kind of place which renders a visit to Lisbon and its charm truly unforgettable!

“When all senses are inspired...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2014 via mobile

The food is modern mediterranean portuguese, lifted up by the beautiful atmosphere of this restaurant, embedded into an architectural jewel on the shores of the river Tejo in Lisbon. A Must if you are in that part of the City - and also in others... Take some time with you and let your palet and mind wander while you take in the great views...
