Really nice old-fashoned hotel not too far from Lisbon centre. Staff efficient & friendly. Rooms old-fashioned but quite spacious, elegant & clean. V comfortable & enjoyable stay. Would def recommend it.

Smallish city hotel. All the staff were very pleasant, doormen, barmen reception etc. The bedrooms were a bit dated, 1960's but were undoubtedly prestigous in their time. Accepting that this hotel is a bit in a time warp our only negative point was the bed. It was rather hard and had a plasticated sheet on it. Was that to protect the bed from us, or us from the bed. Anyhow, it was quite uncomfortable.

Lovely hotel, really nicely furnished with a nice mix of traditional and modern.
We only had a one night stay and didn't eat here but loved the feel of the place. Large suite of two rooms, with a lovely big bathroom.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2010

For a young non-caucasian female solo traveller, I was certainly looked on with some suspicion. However, I've travelled extensively enough to know when to ignore these things. I have just got back from a four night stay at this hotel.

The Hotel: From the outside (and the immediate inside) the hotel looked very old however, the facilities were adequate and warm. The room was spacious and the bathroom was clean and nice. I especially liked the shower. I was however not to chuffed about being given a twin room when I booked a double. The lounge has nice cozy areas if you want to stay in and relax.

The staff: Were professional although a bit snooty at first. I assumed that they were not used to people of my demographic description staying there too often. The manager deemed it beneath him to speak to me. Overall however, the staff were professional and answered any queries I had. I espeically liked the door/page man who was extremely helpful in giving me directions - although he dissapeared on day two of my stay.

The bar and food: Since the room did not have tea making facilities, I drank a lot of tea from the bar. The bar staff I found the most professional of all. On my first night, I was very tired and so ordered some food from the bar - the guy was gentlemanly and professional. I had the food delivered in less than 15 minutes. In addition, I was given a complementary glass of port-wine which was nice.

Other facilities: I found the free wifi really helpful.

The immediate vicinity: I only went out in the day as I wasn't sure if it would be safe to go roaming on my own in the area at night. The immediate vicinity has everything one could want - shops, restuarants, cafes, sightseeing tour buses, friendly locals etc..etc.. and these were what really made my holiday. I almost felt like one of the locals by the time I left.

Overall a good experience. I would however recommend it for older couples/groups.

It was a wonderful classic hotel in a great location close to old town, train station etc. Lots of restaurants close by. Would stay there again.
