My boyfriend and I spent 5 days at here as part of our stay in Portugal. Hotel isn't centrally located in regards to tourist sites but is very close to the subway so it took only a few mins to get anywhere. Rooms are plain but clean. A decent value for the price.

Stayed one night before catching early morning flight. Handy 24 hr service station directly over the road to re fuel before short drive to the airport. Great price smallish room but clean, didn't have breakfast. Close to metro to get downtown, undercover parking.

Spent one night in this hotel in November 2005. part of a chain, no character and also quite claustrophobic, as lots of the reception / dining areas had no windows. Modern, clean, terrific water pressure in the bathrooms, but no ambience. Poor location in a dreary part of Lisbon, with nothing to do in the area. Close to the metro though. Much better to stay in smaller funkier places nearer the river which are surrounded by good restaurants and great shops.

We are staying at the Berna this week (Sep 2005). I have no complaints about the room sizes, but...
...they are FILTHY!
I found grey, mouldy old french fries down the side of my bed! And, that´s not all - I watched incredulously as the maids in the breakfast room "cleaned" the tables. Their routine consisted of collecting all the dirty plates and crockery (no problem there), but then they randomly flicked all the crumbs and other food remnants onto the floor, in full view of other breakfast guests!
The walls of the rooms are paper thin (we are on floor 8), and so we have been kept awake by the TV from the room next door until the early hours. I can even here the guest next door "spending a penny"!!
The only good thing about this hotel is that the showers are nice and powerful.
I´d give the Berna 1 star. One thing is for certain, it does NOT deserve three!
