We picked the Novotel based on price and it was a gamble, that we won. The hotel is very clean and the rooms are nice. We had a little trouble with the tv turning itself off. However, this was fixed quickly and so not really an issue. The best thing we found about this hotel was the food and the serving staff. The counter staff were helpful, but a bit sullen. Some of the counter staff were good and others made you feel a little uncomfortable about approaching them. However, the restaurant staff and the cleaning staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. We were wth a toddler and so had difficulty entertaining her and keeping her quiet, especially around meal times. The staff helped keep her entertained and were really great. A big plus at this hotel is the food. In the morning they do a buffet breakfast, which was very nice and also a large variety of foods. It was something to look forward to each morning, and at 11 euros a time was a great bargain for what you got as it included tea and coffee in the price. We went for the first breakfast out of convenience, and then went every day afterwards. We ate out during the day and then one nigt we tried the evening meal. This again was a buffet for 16.50 euros. For this you got a starter salad bar with meat cuts etc.. and then a selection of main meals and then a selection of deserts and also cheeses. Drinks arnt included in the price, but you get a 4 course meal, and you can have as much as you want. Techically you could have a 12 course meal if you wanted to try it all. The food is very good aswell
The hotel has free wifi connection and also video games in the lobby. There is a bar, gym and swimming pool.
Downsides to this hotel were the lack of cot for our little darling. We have learnt that Lisbon is not pushchair friendly anyway, and although the Portugese loves kids, they dont offer many facilities for them. Be warned, it is hard work if you have a pushchair or wheel chair here. The hotel was pushchair friendly, bt not cot. I had to use pillows to make a barrier so my little one would stay on the bed.
Another downside [and also plus side depending on your viewpoint] is its location. It is in the financial district. This means it is outside of the city centre and so a bs or metro journey in. This posses a problem if you want to go and wander the downtown at night in seach of restaurants etc.. The metro station is only a 10 minute walk from the hotel and so is not a real hardship to get into town as the metro is easy to use, cheap and quick with no waiting about. However, it is not like stepping out of your hotel onto the boardwalk!! On the flip side, the hotel is in a quiet and safe area where you can stroll around without any worry of pickpockets or beggars. If you can deal with the short trip into town then the hotel is in a very easy going area that is a break from the hustle and bustle.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here. It was well worth the money and make sure you try the buffet breakfast and evening meal.
