“Getting better and better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

It's getting better & better with the years (as Porto wine): cars & noise have almost disappeared, there's more space for strolling around, more cafes. Facades were renovated not long time ago and now they are cleaning the statue and the arch.

“Shops + Eating + River”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

Nice to take some pictures with the river on the background or the Arch on the opposite side. Beautiful architecture surrounding the square. Lots of restaurants in the little arches as well as some night clubs. Great to watch the sunset!

“nice palce to sit and relax”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

The monument in the middle of the square was under construction during my visit but this was probably a good thing as the hoarding around the statue gave loads of info on the construction and design which was really interesting. It is a nice place to sit outside and just watch people go by. The museum of beer has nice beers it brews for E2.50 a glass although it really is more a restaurant and bar then a museum! there are trams/buses/metro station in the area so really accesible and also on the city tour bus route.

“great view and a place to relax”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

This charming waterfront square is one of the most beautiful in Europe in my opinion. Even with the construction work that was going on in March you were rewarded with grand views of the castle and Cristo Rei across the Tagus. The triumphal arch is dramatic as the building it graces serves as the perfect frame. People are attracted to the statue in the middle and come to sit and talk. This is probably the 2nd best place to people watch after Rossio Square.

“open space (at the time with construction works)”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

pretty square, expensive restaurants, road works, and the little seat next to the water is not that nice since the coastline is not that nice... walk through it but not worth to linger much, combine it with your walk up Alfama.
