“Beautiful tile work in a charming convent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

The tile works here cover several centuries and are an amazing collection of wonderful tile pieces. Unique! Displayed attractively in this very old convent. If you like tile, do not miss this museum!

“A "must see"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

Tile art is something very characteristic about Lisbon. In this museum you can follow all th history of tile art. The highlights are: 1) the 23 m. long panorama of Lisbon before the tsunami of 18th century 2) the church inside the museum with the impressive sculptures

“Comprehensive collection of Portugese tiles from ancient to modern.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

Not well signposted from the bus but worth seeking out for a display of tilemaking from the earliest to modern. The gallery of modern tiles is particularly impressive. There is a lovely cafe for hot or cold lunch with a sitting out area if preferred.

“Mind-Blowing Collection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

Large murals made of tile, mostly blue-on-white but sometimes more colorful, are a Portuguese specialty. This museum houses some gorgeous examples, some old, some contemporary. The collection is housed in an old convent, in rooms off the cloisters. Most of the pieces on display are labeled in Portuguese and English, and there's enough background information to provide a basic education about the art form. A visit here is also good preparation for the tilework in some of the churches and palaces you're likely to see on your visit to Lisbon.

“NOT TO BE MISSED”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

If you are interested in Portuguese culture and what makes Portuguese decoration unique then you should really visit this place. A real find. The museum is in a convent and the decoration is overwhelming as is the chapel which is a site to behold! Don't go to Lisbon without visiting this fabulous homage to the tile!
