“A Gem - five star class in a small boutique hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

Like all the other reviews have pointed out the Britania is a gem. With only thirty rooms it is very cosy, the staff attentive, and are happy to help all the time without being obsequious or intrusive; Marco being the stand out. The keep a quite note of what you have whether it be a drink or a sandwich without the intrusive signing of vouchers etc. We were there for eight days and in a hotel like this, it removes the stress of the accommodation part of holiday. The value for money is very good (5 nights at E111 and three more at E140) and the attention to detail quite something. While we did not avail ourselves of a glass or two from the two carafes of port they have (on the house) there for the guest to sample at their leisure; it was nevertheless an example of the nice touches the Britania provides. The location jus behind the upmarket shopping area with Lois Vouton literally around the corner, is perfect; and buses and metro very near.

Very few nit picks except for a 4am call to my home in Australia to confirm my booking, but proufound apologies for not checking the time zone. Maybe an email confirmation would safe them phone call costs and time zone embarrassments.

Dear Guest,
Thank you very much for your kind words which we were all very satisfied to read.
It is our main concern that our guests feel welcome and also have all the assistance they require.
Once again please accept our apologies for the night call which was a mistake from our part.
We are looking forward to welcoming you again to the Britania.
Yours sincerely,

We spent the first four nights of our Honeymoon in the Britania and could not have asked for more. Our room was very spacious, with a balcony and a large terrace with lounge chairs. We spent the end of every night in Lisbon relaxing on the terrace drinking wine or champagne. The common space in the hotel is beautiful, the staff is extremely helpful, without being overbearing, and there is a very nice afternoon tea every day. We found the location ideal to explore many different neighborhoods in Lisbon and had a number of great restaurants nearby, Highly recommended!

A wonderful place to spend a vacation. We stayed 4 nights and everything was just perfect. We were treated like royalty; every request was fulfilled promptly, with a smile. The staff is absolutely amazing. Special thanks to Raquel, Ana and adorable Marco, who made us feel better than at home. We always stay at 4 star or five star hotels; we have had very good experiences with various hotels in Europe, but we have never been to such a paradise.

The minute you enter the hotel, you are struck by its beauty and attention to every detail. The rooms are spacious, beautifully decorated, and very comfortable. Staying in the Britania feels like staying in a palace and playing King and Queen. Room service is impeccable. The room sparkled, as did the whole place.

We can go on and on describing all the many details which made our stay so enjoyable. If you want to have a special experience and enjoy a true vacation, choose the Britania. The only problem is that it hard to go back home...

This is a wonderful little hotel - an art deco gem in a quiet but convenient location. The service is excellent - when I said that the bed was a bit firm, they put a mattress topper on and the bed was wonderful and comfortable.
Breakfast was great - self service but a good range and lovely fresh fruit salad, fresh breads and pastries. The Nespresso machine produced a pretty good coffee.
Wifi in the hotel is excellent and included in the room rate.
The hotel is close to a metro station and it is easy to get around Lisbon. If you like walking, you can walk to a lot of places from Britania.

I stayed here for 6 nights in June, travelling on my own, and had a wonderful time. Staff, especially Rachael and Jefferson, were extremely helpful, guiding me to see special sites. Rooms were so clean and spacious, many thanks to cleaning staff. Atmosphere is so soothing, Art Deco ambience throughout the whole building. Breakfast is awesome, do not need lunch, just another meal during the day. Can have soup, sandwiches etc at well stocked bar or in room. Pastries and tea are provided during the day, very welcome after sightseeing! Will be back!

Room Tip: All rooms the same I think, in quiet street and face same way!

Myself and 3 female family members stayed here for a long weekend last week. The hotel has been beautifully restored and offers old world charm and service. The staff are all fantastic, discreet and extremely helpful. The rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean with good quality complimentary items. Breakfast is varied and as we arrived late, a lovely supper was prepared for us. Nothing is too much trouble , 5 star service in a 4 star hotel. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

I stayed here for 5 nights early June. The hotel is not very obvious, with the entrance in a side street off the Avenida Liberarde and only a small wall plaque to identify it. So be careful you do not miss it. Inside it is a real gem, authentic art deco throughout. The staff are fantastic; reception staff speak many languages and really go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. The rooms are a good size and always clean, and the breakfast buffet is abundant and varied. The complimentary tea and pastries at 5pm is definitely something to return to the hotel to enjoy while relaxing with a book in the library. The buses all stop on the main road just near the hotel so it is easy to get about. I would certainly recommend staying here.
