“Great choice for a quiet location in a boutique style”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2013

This hotel is perfect, if you don't want a huge impersonal chain (which tend to be further away from the old center of town). Lacking in nothing really. Large quiet room, good range of channels on TV including several in English. Free WiFi was very useful. Great staff and all the other things that you can read in the other reviews so I won't repeat them here.

A short walk from the Metro (we always used that and never taxis), if you stay there remember it is the uphill direction on the right when you exit the metro station, and the Tivoli theatre is the landmark to head for. Turn right by the theatre and follow the road round to the left.

The city center is a short walk away (about 10-15 minutes) although the Hard Rock Cafe is only 5 mins and this is the daytrip collection point for Inside Lisbon tours (also recommended).

Room Tip: I think they are all much alike. Large and quiet, not much to see out of the window anyway as it it...

Our party of six had three rooms at this stylish Art Deco hotel from 22nd to 26th April.
The staff were amazing - nothing too much trouble, good recommend for one of our evening eating out places, and good information about Lisbon.
Breakfast was a feast, and afternoon tea (from 5.00 to 9.00) was delightful complete with pastries, or a glass of port if you preferred.
Probably one of the best European hotels I have ever stayed at!!

Room Tip: Rooms on the Rua Rodrigues Sampaio were quiet

We had two rooms on the first floor, 11 and 15 and both guest rooms were heavenly. The rooms were beyond clean and very lovely. There is absolutely nothing that I would have suggested to improve the guest rooms. Housekeeping was also great and very prompt.
The entire team is wonderful and really want to make your stay enjoyable. They know the city and the surrounding areas great, helpful with directions etc. This is the place to stay if you want personalize service, a great location just off of the main avenue which is a huge plus, and an overall fantastic experience.
Jefferson in the bar was so warm and friendly with our family. He and Marco from the front desk are top of our list for service and helpfulness. The other two front desk ladies were equally as nice and helpful, I just don't recall their names. But without a doubt, everyone here is wonderful.
We will go back to lovely Lisboa and stay at this hotel again. I highly recommend it for any person wanting to feel like a true guest of a five star boutique property who is appreciated for selecting their hotel.

Room Tip: Double paned windows were in both of our rooms, the rooms faced the street with no noise problem at...

Stayed for a long weekend at the beginning of March. Really pleased we chose this hotel. It was well placed, in a quiet road off the main street, only 10 mins stroll from the city centre and very close to the metro. The room was huge and the Art Deco furnishings unusual and very stylish. The bed was massive and comfortable, the bathroom also large with great Molton Brown toiletries. We saw the same receptionist every day and she was always friendly and helpful. I can recommend this hotel as somewhere convenient, stylish and friendly to stay.

Lisbon is a great city to visit and this is an ideal hotel. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was good and all the staff were super friendly and helpful. It's in a good location, near the metro and it's very quiet. We all loved the free tea with custard tarts every day and appreciated the kettle in our room.

Elegant, spacious, very quiet and full of character. Service was extraordinary, especially (but by no means only) the young woman on reception who shared so much advice and information when asked. Both the room (23) and bed were enormous and we slept perfectly. Many others have remarked on the small touches, such as real fresh orange juice at breakfast, that set this hotel apart.

Very well appointed, including DVD, kettle, strong/secure wifi, a/c, safe. On the trivial side, strangely there were no tissues supplied and the soap supply could have been better.

Very good value - choose this hotel with complete confidence. We thank the hotel and all its staff for a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: Rooms 23 and 24 were excellent.

I tend to do a lot of research when planning a trip so when I read such positive reports there is just a little bit of me that wonders is this really as good as they say it is? Well I have no hesitation whatsoever in saying that I am sure I could not have done better than choosing the Hotel Britania for my first visit to Lisbon.
I love Portugal, having visited eight times I think, but not to Lisbon. I find the people to be generally warm and friendly and I like the gentle pace of life. Lisbon in general and the Britania In particular reminded me of both. For a capital city, I found Lisbon to lack the noise and hectic pace of other cities such as Barcelona, for example.
Main attributes of the Hotel Britania:
Location: Very central and easy to walk to main attractions. However, Lisbon is hilly so my advice would be to pace yourself. A two minute walk from the aerobus stop on the Avenida da Liberdade so easy to catch Aerobus 1 from the airport. Metro station is also sited here (blue Azur line - Avenida). Indeed we used the buses, trams, metro and trains throughout our stay and would recommend buying a Lisboa Card from the information desk on arrival at the airport. This gives access to all of the public transportation including use of train out to Sintra, a 40 minute ride, from the city's mainline Rossio Station. Cost of the 72 hour card was €38 and tremendous value. Cards are also available for 24 and 48 hours.
Reception: staff always smiling and seemed genuinely happy in their jobs. Check-in and check-out easy. Advice and help readily available as required.
Breakfast: they have a lovely, informal arrangement of "help yourself" in the library/bar from 0730 until midday. There are two friendly and efficient ladies who ensure that the food is regularly replenished and your coffee cup is regularly filled. Good choice of fruit, cold meats, cheese, eggs, bacon, etc. as well as breads, cereals and pastries. Whilst very informal, sometimes it felt eerily quiet; mostly because guests are reading newspapers or guide books rather than chatting. Depended on who was partaking of breakfast at that particular time as other times it was quite lively.
Library and bar: coffee readily available from Nespresso machine throughout the day and fresh tea and assortment of delicious pastries including the legendary pastel de nata served between 5 - 9 pm. Lovely place to sit and plan the next day's sightseeing and talk to fellow guests of different nationalities. There is always lots of interest when you say you are Scottish and live near Loch Ness!
Room: we booked a standard room and were allocated room 56. Large, well decorated and well lit room with 6ft wide bed; quiet and immaculately clean. (We loved the art deco features throughout the hotel.). Spacious bathroom with bath tub and over-bath powerful shower. Molton Brown toiletries, regularly replenished. We appreciated the in-room tea and coffee facilities - again the supplies replenished daily. Could not have wanted for anything more.
Would recommend a stay at the Hotel Britania without reservation. Clearly it is not for someone who is looking for a large corporate hotel with swimming pool, spa, etc. but for us it was ideal.
