What a lovely place. I was a little worried when the taxi pulled up outside an anonymous doorway in a quiet backstreet, especially as the taxi driver didn't know the hotel and we had to show him the address written down. However, the uniformed doorman was at the car door in a moment to welcome us. We left our luggage with him in the small lobby and made our way up the magical stairway.
As other reviewers have mentioned, there are a lot of stairs and they aren't very even so not a good choice if you have any trouble walking. That said, Lisbon is a city for walking and is built over a whole bunch of hills - all of the 'sights' are on steep slopes - so if you aren't into walking, the city may not be for you.
Our room was fabulous. We had ordered a superior double but they were full so we were put into a deluxe (the next category up) which meant as well as more space we had our own terrace that was not overlooked. This wasn't much use in November but if it were summer this would be fabulous and I would definately want to pay extra for this. Only problem was that we had twin beds rather than a double.
I'd recommend this place in a heartbeat - great staff, excellent rooms, a beautiful bathroom and a piece of history.
