“A nice walk (if you can handle the hills).”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013

While I think this area is just a tad overrated for what it is (totally neglected and rather charmless), we did have a nice time walking down from São Jorge castle in the early evening.
Most of the taverns were empty and the locals seemed to prefer to stay indoors.
Make sure NOT to make the way up, as the street are very steep.

“Real Lisbon?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

I loved walking round the backstreets of Alfama. There are photo opportunities everywhere, lots of small bars and restaurants and it feels like this is the real Lisbon rather than the tourist version in the town centre.

“Colorful old city center. Needs some maintenance”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

Nice typical quarter of Lisbon, full of activities during the night.
Colorful houses, many broken buildings and several beggars on the street.

“Most charming area in Lisbon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

Kept coming back to the area for the atmosphere and the wonderful cafés. Take the tram for an overall feel.
