“A charming and lively part of Lisbon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

If you want to experience a part of Lisbon that's not all about shopping opportunities, but about feeling the real Lisbon, where people live and where you'll find portugese people in the cafés, this is the place to visit. There's also a lot of beautiful scenic views especially along Largo Santa Luzia & Rua Säo Tomé. Note you can take tram 12 from Praca da Figueira in a circle trip or get of and walk part of the way (and get on Again if you like). It's easy to get there (Praca da Figueira) with the Metro.

“BEAUTIFUL”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

The most beautiful part of Lisbon in my opinion.
The streets are all cobblestone, just small sidewalks and the most amazing smells from the fresh traditional portugeese food!! a MUST VISIT.

Had a lovely day in Alfama. Got the tram up which was an experience in itself. Great views over the city. There was a salsa band playing so sat and listened for a while, people were getting up to dance,so we joined them!! I even bought the cd!! Great memories of a lovely afternoon spent sipping vino blanco and dancing in the street. Would love to go back sometime.

“Old world charm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

It was fun exploring endless streets of alfama offering fair glimpses of lives of locals. The houses covered with ancient tiles is treat to watch.Clotheslines sagging with weight of colorful clothes outside every household is pretty photogenic.Plenty of local foods, snacks and fruits available at many street shops. The sight of red tiled rooftops right upto sea from the top is gorgeous.Inspite of being very old neighbourhood the steets are reasonably clean. With every few minutes trams passingby or appearing suddenly at street corner is really i enjoyed very much. One word of caution while travelling in trams in this particular part of town is beware of pickpockets. Mine was picked within three hours of arriving in Lisbon and Alfama was my first outing after checking in.

The area of Alfama in Lisbon is a fantastic place to walk around and explore this old part of the city. The small, narrow streets are a look into a unique area of the city. There are cafe's and restaurants to sit and enjoy the ambience.
