We stayed 7 nights at this hotel in a junior suite. The property was immaculately clean, with good linens and towels. There were plenty of electrical outlets, and the free WiFi was amongst the best I have used in a hotel anywhere. Water pressure and temperature were good, as Was HVAC. The pillows were lumpy and not feather/down. The concierge, Joao, was fantastic, and he was able to secure a difficult restaurant reservation for us.
The included breakfast was very good. The quality of the food was excellent, and it was consistently replenished. Breakfast was served in a grand room with high ceiling and fine linens. Upon seating they offer coffee or tea. The coffee was just okay, but you do have the option for (double) espresso, which to me tasted much better.
The front desk experience was mixed. Some were friendly, others very withdrawn. Also the concierges were quite variable. Joao in particular seemed to be plugged in on what was going on, while others seemed disinterested or even clueless, although I wonder if my not speaking Portuguese had something to do with it. The manager was young and seemed with it.
At breakfast, you get a pretty good survey of who stays here. Mostly middle aged folks, some families with mostly teenage kids. A smattering of Americans, but mostly Germans and French. This is not a hipster hang out.
Being next to the Rossio station and its spectacular neo-Manueline facade, it was very easy to get out to visit Sintra, and in particular the Pena Palace. There were also plenty of restaurants nearby, some of which were very tourist oriented and overpriced, but others of which were quite good and authentic.
In nice weather, if you walk up a few block north on the Avenida, there was a nice place to hang outside named the Time Out kiosk.
For what it is, I highly recommend this hotel.
