“Great view to the old city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2013

The castle has a great view the old part of Lisbon, however, the entrance is 7€!
It's on top of the hill so you have to go all the way up from the downtown area to get the, but once you do, you can relax and enjoy an ancient castle but very weel kept right in the midle of a city!

“Beautiful views and interesting museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2013

We visited the castle on a rainy day but still enjoyed our time. The views are wonderful, some of the best over Lisbon and the museum is filled with intriguing artifacts. You can walk along many high walls of the old castle also. We took the yellow 28 tram up (a tip for people with metro tickets - you can use these on the yellow tram but not the red one which is more expensive) It is well worth the walk down the hill through the houses and washing hanging out everywhere, such a colourful and fantastic atmosphere.

“Spectacular hilltop view!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2013

Hilltop citadel / castle overlooking the river Tagus and central Lisbon. Armored knights recreate the feeling of being there more viscerally if you have children. Lots of ramparts to climb. Nice coffeehouse and a group of peacocks and peahens inhabit the gardens along with lots of sun basking cats. It's a bit of a hike, but no trouble if you're in shape. Try to beat the crowds and tour buses for the best experience.

“Great views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2013

I used a Lisboa Card for discount. The way up by foot isn't that well marked, pay attention. Tram 28 goes nearby to lessen the walk. The castle has been partially restored and the views over the city. & river are great

“Enjoy the view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2013

Take the tram from the center of town, which is in itself a pleasant experience. However, transport will only take you so far, and from there its quite a walk up steep cobbled streets. Still, it gives you the opportunity to take in the local atmosphere, and there are plenty of small shops and cafes where you can stop for a rest. Remember to pay at the small kiosk opposite the entrance before entering the castle grounds. The views are stunning - from the river all across Lisbon. Walk the ramparts, visit the museum to see the ancient artifacts found on the site, and be sure to spend time at the Ulysses Tower. In here there is a camera obscura that reflects - in fine detail - Lisbon onto a large table. Enjoy the peacocks, which are the denizens of the castle. If you intend to climb the ramparts take a sweater, as even on a warm day the wind can be chilling.
