It´s one of the highers points of the city, so we can see everithing, the uptown, all the Lisbon hills.
It was here, in this castle, that our first king, D. Afonso Henriques conquered our city.

From the São Jorge Castle you can view magnificent sights of Lisbon, really impressive. On the side near D. Afonso Henriques statue you can see a breathtaking view on the Terreiro do Paço Square, the Tejo river and 25 de Abril Bridge. On the other side allows you to see the Martim Moniz Square and the slope of the belvedere of São Pedro de Alcantara. Also do not miss a visit in the late afternoon to watch the sunset. The price of entry to the castle is exaggerated. Tour not to be missed.

What an amazing castle. We took the funicular part way up and then were astounded by the preservation of the castle. Definitely used as a fortification--the walls and entire castle were well preserved. Our favorite site in Lisbon.
