“great art”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

An impressive collection, paintings, books, ceramics, furniture - all in one museum. The entrance is somewhat hidden and the building doesn´t look loke much from the outside, but a very pleasant surprize from the inside. Free on Sundays.

Rare and exceptionally well maintained. Prices very affordable. Plenty of information available. Books are cheap and of high quality.

“wide range of art and antiques”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

So I went to this museum on a saturday morning. the gulbenkian collection apparently was gathered by a very wealthy guy who owned some oil in the middle east so it was a bit like going into his house and looking at some fabulous stuff he collected all over the world. im not particularly into antiques so i wandered around this bit quickly and went into the modern art building for lunch. lunch at the museum cafe is very affordable but usually you get a long queue if you go there after 1pm. I prefer this part of the museum because it's spacious and you don't get into people's way (or the other way round) when appreciating art. The main exhibition is on Júlio dos Reis Pereira's paintings and they are lovely. The temporary section now is on Afghanistan and it features an interesting short film in the theatre. Most of the books they sell in the museum shop are Portuguese though. Outside the museum it is a small park where you see young families running around with their kids or couples cuddling looking at the duck pond. Nice place to chill if you are not in a hurry. If you could, try to go there on a Sunday because it's free admission.

“Marvellous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

The Gulbenkian Museum is one of the finest that you can find in Lisbon. For a small fee, you are able to see a varied collection, from Ancient Egypt to Modern pictures. It should also be noted that the Museum is surrounded by beautiful gardens, which are lovely for a sunny afternoon - and the children will love them, because there are usually ducks to be found! Very romantic, as well!
