My husband and I had been walking around Lisbon's Alfama district for quite some time, and getting a little restless as we went towards Castelo de Sao Jorge, we finally agreed to stop and grab a bite at the first place we saw. it turned out to be Claras em Castelo and we were so happy for it! While we didn't go there with the desire to eat a large meal since it was mid-day, we opted for a plate of chorizos and a plate of cheeses. Being American, this was particularly delightful as it gave us an opportunity to try regional cheeses and chorizo of more variety than we had seen so far. We felt so at ease even though we'd been rushing all day, that we decided to crack open a bottle of their recommended Douro wine. Still trying to remember what that name was...because either the mood was right or that was the very best wine we had in our trip to Portugal. The couple who runs it is fantastic - so friendly, accommodating, and happy to walk us thorugh the different cheeses so we could buy some before flying back to the States. We only wish we could go again to try their entrees. Definitely recommend!
