Took the ferry across from Cais de sodre to Cacilas then the metro to Almada and walked up to the statue, although you can catch a bus straight to it. Decided to pay 4 euros to go up the lift to the top and i am so glad i did the views of Lisbon the 25th of April bridge the Tagus and surrounding area was an absolute treat to the eyes.

“Can be appreciated from afar.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2013

Modelled on the famous Cristo Redentor in Rio de Janeiro, this 28 meters tall statue watches over Lisbon from an 82 meters pedestal.
You can see this statue from many points in Lisbon, so unless you REALLY must, there is no need to actually get to the statue and you can admire it from afar, as we did.

“It's more than you think”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

Almost every year we go to Portugal and every time we visit o Cristo Rei. Not because we are that religious, but because of the views. The views of Lisboa, the 25th of April bridge, from Almada to Setubal, from Costa da Caparica, the Vasco da Gama bridge and the Tejobay to Barreiro. But also because of the statue itself. When you are on groundlevel and you look up it's high, but when you are on the topfloor, at his feet, and you look up, he is still big. The amazing time is when you look up and the sun is right behind his head, which gives him an halo.
If you are in Lisboa just take the ferry from Cais de Sodrè near the Praca do Comercio in Lisboa to Casilhas. There you can take the bus, which drops you right at the front gate. But we always go by car. Before you enter the city of Almada you see signs directing you up the hill to the statue. There is a big carpark, with a cafe and public bathrooms. Just by standing on the carpark and you look at the statue, you look in awe. At the base of the statue you can walk around enjoing the view of Lisboa and the 25th of April bridge. You can also walk along the edges where there are crosses with scriptures graved in them. At the front there is a cross just a little above the ground with a big heart next to it.
Inside there is a chapel om ground level and a small room with pictures and stories how and why the statue was build. Opposite of that, there is the pay desk where you buy your ticket (5 euros) and get in the elevator. Arriving upstairs, you still have to walk up a stairs to the souvenirshop and there is also another chapel. In the shop there is one last stairs you will have to take to get outside. It is worth the trouble.
Another great time to go there is late in the afternoon, when the sun shines on the water of the Tejo river. The light on Lisboa is then also very special.

“It's worth to take the hassles to visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013

To go there from Lisbon, you can get in a ferry in Cais do Sodre (several buses and green metro lane go there). Without a day trip card, it costs Euros 2.9 per adult. Then in the other side of the river, you need to get bus 101 (Euros 1.9 per adult for return ticket).
From the court yard under the statue, you have a wonderful view of the statue, Lisbon (if clear sky), and very pleasant view of the bridge. We didn't take the elevator to the top, but it should be also amazing.
You'll find the commuting part of this activity a little hassle, but it's worth it, take it.

As soon as i came to lisbon, i really wanted to see this place.İts such a holy site. İ asked the taxi how much it costed to go there, he said 20 euro, which i thought was to expensive. So i took the ferry there, it only took 30 minutes to almada where the cristo rei is situated. From there you take the bus, number 101 which takes you directly to the cristo rei in 20 minutes. When your there, the view is just mind blowing.Especially when your on top where the jesus statue is because you need an elevator to go all the way to the top.The entrance fee all the way to the top costs just 5 euro.Which is well worth it. Underneath the cristo rei where you get the elevator to the top is a big church which is fantastic:) İts well worth visiting this place, 5 stars all the way:)
