“Wonderful way to spend an afternoon!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

We where recommended to this fabulous bar by friends and they where right it is an absolute find!
We had visited the Castle and stopped in afterwards.
What a great way to spend the afternoon!
They even included our 13 year old daughter by giving her a wine glass for her water.
The antipasto platters where out of this world.
The wine delicious!
They don't rush you and really embrace their passion for Portuguese wine.
Enjoy!!!

“Amazing wines, passionate owners”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013 via mobile

This place is fantastic! The selection of wines by the glass is vast. There are lots of aged wines available to taste should you so desire. That's rare anywhere but Bern's in Tampa. Easily better than the wine bar in Barrio Alto. Don't miss this place!!!

“Best Wine Bar in Lisbon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

Interesting and broad selection of regional wines and cheeses served in cozy, rustic atmosphere. The highly knowledgeable staff guided us through a selection of old and relatively new vintages, contrasting the various grapes, regional styles and age of the wines. Absolutely worth a special trip back to the Castle to experience Wine Bar do Castelo.

“A delicious education”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

I love to eat, I love to drink, and I love learning about wine. If you like any or all of these things, this place is a "must" for you. Three of us stayed with Nuno(one of the owners) for (no lie) 5 hours on a Sunday evening and tasted ~12 different wines and ports and left walking a bit freely and also feeling that we had a much increased knowledge of both wine in general and Portuguese wine specifically. He would pour us two wines which we would all taste, then we would get a glass of which one we preferred, if we didn't like it, he would find us another one that we did like. We only paid for the full glasses that we ordered, and none of the tastings. This is a great way to taste many different wines without commitment.

We had eaten at a few Michelin starred restaurants earlier in the trip, and the wine explanations that we got here were better, and the food would have been at home as appetizers at the best restaurants in the world. The best olives I have had in my life, delicious cheese and cold cuts, and everything explained and explored as much or as little as we wanted (I wanted a great deal of explanations). Nuno sat with us, spoke to us about what we liked and what we didn't, and then would deliberate in his extensive collection about what he would pour us next. He has wines from 2 euro a glass to 800 euro bottles of port, so it's something that can fit virtually any budget.

I have been to tastings all over the world (despite having a palate that is as sensitive as a brick) and this place was the best combination of food, wine, and education that I have ever been to. Do go and pay Nuno a visit, you'll be happy you did.

“The treasures of the castle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

For someone who lives on the outskirts of Lisboa and works in a completely different area of the city, coming to Castelo is almost a nightmare. So why do I came to this place from time to time? This is not even a restaurant...
Oh yes! Now I remember... hundreds of wines and a fabulous staff! They really know a lot about wine!
If you're a tourist in Lisboa you shouldn't miss a visit to the Castelo and the great views over the city. But after a few hours there you should stop on your way down and discover other highlights of Portugal: wine, cheese, olive oil, sausages...
They're great hosts and they will help you to find the perfect wine for you and the delicacies to go along with it... if you're a wine enthusiast this will be heaven: especially if you end up with a 19th century Madeira or Porto!
