“Fun, educational and free”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

This beautiful mason building was a former power station now transformed into a cultural centre. The original machinery has been restored to show how it al works. Makes for great photography. The second part is a more science exhibition to educate in how electricity works. Good fun. Also for kids.
Small museum (no endless galleries), interesting, fun and free!

“Worth making the effort to visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

It was a bit awkward to get to on public transport, but would be easy if you have a car, as there's parking close by. The museum tells a very educational story of how it used to be the main electricity generating plant for the city. You really get a good feel for the scale of the machinery, and how it must have been to work in. There's plenty of hands-on; kids of all ages would have a great time here.

“Lisbon's first electric central and computers!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

Now the Museum of Electricity, the building hosted Lisbon's first real electrical central and it still exhibits Portugal's first computers, built during the 1950s. The building itself is a wonderful architectural piece work of art, a bricked building of stature, and ocasionally there are temporary exhibitions which are also of interest.

“Industrial Era Building with great art exhibitions”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2012

Long time ago it used to be the electricity factory. Nowadays this beautiful building has some of the best art exhibitions, like world press photo. There's a bar with esplanade inside and the factory museum also deserves a visit.

“It is just a Museum”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012

If you are in Lisbon, unless you are a fanatic of that kind of places, I should not waste my time to see it. Is´s about electricity, and sometimes has some other exhibitions. However, it´s very well placed, facing the river, and "Museu dos Coches" and near by " Jerónimos", " Centro Cultural de Belém", "Museu da Marinha" and " Torre de Belém". All these monuments and places can be seen in one day, with lunch in the self service of " Centro Cultural de Belém", but it will be quite a physical task. There is near by, a famous "Café" with " Pasteis de Belém". It is a nice place to have a second breakfast, having a "pastel" and a coffee...however, similar cakes can be found anyway in Portugal, and in a few selected places in other countries...the difference is, they are usually call " pasteis de nata" NA , with an N as in Nothing
, an A as in PA in apart, and TA as TA in tangent...
