Description: On off the least pretentious of Lisbon's Fado restaurants is also one of its finest. Hosts Duarte Santos and Ana Marina treat guests as family and the homely ambiance is warming and inviting. The homemade gastronomy is noted for its textures and flavours and generous portions, with the seafood cataplana (stew) a much-lauded feast. The menu is limited, but here it's all about the quality of the food. As for the entertainment, this is local fado at its most authentic -- the singers and musicians have known each other for years, and the performance is heartfelt and genuine. Quite often, diners are invited to join in which makes the evening truly memorable.

“Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013 via mobile

Sr. Fado, spectacular restaurant in Lisbon, located in the Alfama district. There are no waiters and the meals are made and served by the restaurant owners, Mr. Duarte and his wife Ana Marina. The traditional food of the restaurant is Cataplana of seafood ( typical portuguese food), but the are other options. After the dinner Mr. Duarte, his wife and some friends singing beautiful fados.

“Extraordinary”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2013 via mobile

Our trip to Portugal in April provided us a better understanding of the history and culture, an appreciation of the country's great architecture, art, and music and an evening at Sr. Fado that we will cherish for our lifetime. Sr. Fado is what we called in the 60's a "happening". Our evening included a wonderful fish stew after having the best soft cheese we ever tasted and it was topped off with a delicious homemade dessert and, of course, port wine! The dinner was prepared and served by the owners Duarte and Ana Marina Santos. Before the meal ended the gutar playing Duarte joined a young, talented man who played the Portuguese guitar. The night's scheduled Fado singer was great! To our surprise after his set other local Fado singers streamed in to sing a song or two, each with their own style and heart. After Ana Marina cleared the plates, she reappeared as the final Fado singer of the evening. She artfully sang the bitter sweet lyrics and each of us there felt enchantment. The restaurant seats only 22 people; as we left at 1:00 AM, we all departed feeling as one and sent off with hugs and kisses by the owners. It was extraordinary!

“Great atmosphere and music, while enjoying Marina´s recipes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

Sr. Fado is a cosy restaurant with a great atmosphere and nice traditional food. I went there to dinner with my wife (loved the cataplana, as well as the starters, such as the cheese with home-made bread). The fado starts around 10:30h and it is really an experience to hear not only Duarte (playing classical guitar) and the portuguese guitar player, but also Marina (Duartes wife, both of them owners of the restaurant) and all the other fado singers that come by to sing a few songs, each of them with a different approach to fado music. Loved it !

“Food and Fado in their Dining Room !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

Its a cozy restaurant, looks like you own dinning room. Great host and hostesse (Duarte and Marina) make you feel right at home. You can listen to typical Fado and Guitarra Portuguesa and taste some delicious traditional portuguese recipes like Cataplana de Marisco , Choquinhos or even a good steak. Homemade bread, great cheese and wine, and dessert are nice too!
They've got everything to be an excellent meal , great entertaining and nice company.
Dont miss it!

“Fado is better than the food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

If you want to listen some fado, this could be the place, the food is ok, not cheap (maybe a beat expensive) but you must pay the singers and the musicians. For the food only isn't an option but all together is fine. Maybe a beat touristic

I very badly, people come here to make comments without ever having been in place, these people are just playing for the raking of travelers who have more comments. The Tripdavisor gives consideration ONLY comments from customers, they are not taking into account the very houses that have been damaged as well.
I'm sure that this person NEVER been in Sr. Fado! the only proof I have is the agenda of the reserves, not containing names of Portuguese strangers to the house, much less in the month of March
In Portugal, the customer is required to invoice. I thank the tripdvisor requires that this lady send them a copy of the invoice as proof of who was here in Mr. Fado. What will be impossible for her because she was never here!! so it was only fair that this comment be removed
She should be banned from tripdvisor by false reviews, just repair it walks to rank, all the restaurants that are in the first place and all with the same classification, unless of course those who are her friends
