“Great music and ambiance, not so great food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

The place is great for the music and the ambiance. It has a family touch and very pleasant character. However the food is not so good and they charge a minimum of 25 so it feels a bit overpriced although you are actually paying for the music.

“Tourist Trap”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

The best part of the night was being sat with a lovely French couple.

The food is simply awful. Not only is it awful but it's over-priced. We did not realise how overpriced until the bill came - a number written on a paper. Nothing is itemised and there is no VAT receipt. This is problematic when food is pretty much forced on you.

The "entertainment" is pretty dire as well. It's not because it's in another language, but there is no emotion to it. I have happily sat through opera and felt moved. The singing is bad except from the chef whose talent obviously lies with her vocals and not her cooking. Oh - and you cannot make any noise or leave when the singing is happening. This is rude apparently. However, there is ONE break during the 4 hour performance - and one toilet. It made for a very uncomfortable evening, and honestly, I felt like a prisoner.

Some reviews say that the price is for the entertainment or experience and not for the food, but everything lets this place down.

“Fantastic Fado”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

We spent Saturday night being entertained many different singers and musicians for 4 hours. The owner sang with lots of locals dropping in and contributing. The venue was small and intimate, service and food were great. Even the waitresses and cooks joined in. A truly authentic and wonderful experience, thoroughly recommended.

“Rip off value but great Fado experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

As described by many it is a great location and a very authentic Fado experience. Staff is very friendly, the show is entertaining. Food is ok but nothing special.
Big big backdraw is the bill. No detailed receipt received, price is very expensive, around 25 Euro overprized without explanation on items. As it is full of tourists it is an easy rip off target audience...

“Looking for you”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

I was having the greatest time with two colleagues from Greece on the night of Friday April the 12th and we have been looking at each other almost all the time... I was back there on Saturday April the 13th looking for you, but you were not there... Hope to find you soon,

Now, everybody, be aware that Baiuca is just a fine place, more precisely when looking for a "Fado vadío" atmosphere, just understand that regarding the price applied it's much higher than usual restaurants in Portugal. However, you only need to spend € 25,00, and it's enough for a good bottle of "vinho verde" and snacks, or main course. Avoid the "couvert" they'll put on the table (beans, cheese) and keep the olives (it's cheap), avoid the offer of white (with starters) and red (with the desert) Porto also avoid the deserts.

Bottom line, the place is really a must be and must see, be aware that you really need to make a reservation (only 4 tables for about 30 people max), and to order avoiding any offer from the personnel.
