“Fantasy experience come to life”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

A colleague and I visiting Portugal just returned from lunch at this little gem, and I couldn't wait to rave about it. I have entertained fantasies about casual afternoons in cozy restaurants in laid back, quaint corners of Europe. My fantasy is now fulfilled. The setting is a small side street in a very quaint part of Lisbon. Service is professional but not rushed. We were given ample time to examine the menu and ordered a goat cheese pastry appetizer with two traditional fish dishes. The waiter asked if we would like wine, and informed us that any glass was EUR4, and he would let us try something, and if we didn't like it, we could try something else. He made some recommendations and we tried one or two until we found one we each liked. Excellent command of the inventory.
We were then brought appetizers of olives, fresh bread, fresh butter, thick olive oil, and a complimentary cheese and jam on a cracker - all delicious. The goat cheese pastry with sweet chilies was served on a bed of arugula - very tasty. Then the fish came. One dish, Bacalhau, is cod served on shredded potatoes and onions mixed with egg. The other dish, scabbard fish, came on a puree of polenta and coriander. Both were outstanding in flavor and freshness. After dinner we were served complimentary port, which we sipped as we sampled the delicious mint chocolate mousse. We left utterly satisfied.

“What an Amazing Evening”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

We enjoyed a fantastic meal here tonight. From the time of our arrival until our reluctant departure three hours later, we were treated to a fabulous meal. The two gentlemen serving us were entertaining and professional. They helpfully paired dishes with amazing Portugese wines and Ports. Whenever we think of Belem we'll always think of Enoteca.

“Seriously disappointed - certainly not worth the hype”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

We were attracted by the outstanding TripAdvisor reviews, and the first impression of this small place close to the Beleme museums was indeed attractive (with the exception of a big flat screen TV, which fortunately was silent. The small restaurant had six other customers at the time of our arrival - two tables in the process of eating, and a couple sitting in the bar. We received the menus - and then nothing happened. After waiting for a while, I asked for wine (for aperitive) and water. The "wine list" was a pair of binoculars to explore the shelfs - funny, but not very helpful. With some effort we could distract the host from the intensive discussion at the bar and order some (quite nice, indeed) white wine. To place the order took another waiting - the table next to us waited forever to get the bill - when the host finally came to us to take our orders, we hinted that our neighbours were first - the response was " they are in the process of paying!". With the appetizers and first courses (a mix of local fare) the mood in our table improved, and we were waiting for the main courses with some excitement - unfortunately this was definetly not worth the wait: sauteed espada, a whole octopus, very tough and slightly grilled, and lamb cutlets of so bad quality none of us had ever eaten or imagined, almost too tough to cut, and served in a grey, clumpy liquid - all of the main courses, supposed to be hot dishes, were barely warm - no need to say that we ate just a few bite to confirm that this really was as bad as it was. Between the dishes, we had to ask the staff to clean the dihes from the table, they made no gesture to fill glasses after initially serving the wine - we had some quite nice red - the selection is reasonable, once the waiter/host is willing to present it.

We will never return, and recommend other to avoid the place. If the recent reviews from others reflect the quality of this restaurant, such disaster as we experienced should at least warn you to be prepared for extremes of quality - and for an unacceptable attitude of the staff.
