“5 star service and suites - fab location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

We have just left Chiado 16 after a 5 night stay. We are currently halfway through a 6 week holiday and finding this place is one of our trips highlights. The suites are huge, with every amenity one could hope for. The whole establishment is kept spotlessly clean by an amazing team of Filipino girls. They really keep this place in a fabulous condition. The staff all seem to multi- task effortlessly and you genuinely feel like a valued guest staying here. The breakfasts each morning were such value for the nominal fee of €10 per person. The recommendations for dinner each evening were thoughtfully provided and just spot on. We had booked special limo to take us to the airport this morning and it hadn't arrived 30 minutes after the 9.00am time we had booked so rather than this being a stressful situation the owner Helene said I will drive you to the airport and we arrived in time for our flight. You will never find this level of service in a chain hotel. Our memories of Lisbon are just superb and the staff at Chiado 16 contributed hugely to this memory. We will be back!. Tena koutou katoa- Kia ora.

Room Tip: If you want a good view be sure to ask for a suite or room on a high floor.

Where do I start... There are so many positives about this place. We absolutely loved Chiado 16 the minute we arrived. We were greeted by Gonzalo, who went out of his way to make us feel welcome and at home. Gonzalo gave us a tour of our suite (apt. 4), which was beautifully appointed with a contemporary decor. The suite had an open feel with lots of space. It was perfect for a family of four. The kitchen was more than we could have asked for. It was stocked well; water, milk, teas, coffee and snacks. However, the best part of the room is the panoramic view, overlooking the city. Breathtaking!
Breakfast is a must do while staying here. We had a relaxed and enjoyable breakfast in the lounge the first morning. It was simple, fresh and delicious. You can taste the freshness of the produce they buy from the market every morning.
The service went over and beyond our expectations. They helped us plan our days and provided great recommendations for sight-seeing and dinner. With their help, we were able to get a local's perspective on Lisbon. During our visit we became attached to Rebeca's warmth and wittiness, and Gonzalo's enthusiasm. We couldn't start our day without saying hello and end our night without updating them with our days events before turning in for the night. Helene, the manager, is so pleasant to talk to, accommodating, and gracious. She helped us with our initial reservations. We couldn't have ended our trip any better with her seeing us off at 5:30 am! It's the staff that really makes this place a unique boutique hotel!! We loved the sights, but we fell in love with the Chiado 16 experience!

My husband and I stayed in the historic view superior suite and his adult daughter stayed in the Amalia deluxe double. The suite was huge by European standards, very modern, clean, and well maintained. Love the espresso machine. Fridge had complementary milk and water. The double room was also large by European standards and equally charming. Our expectations were exceeded for both rooms.

The hotel location is perfect for exploring Chiado, Baixa, and Alfama by foot and very close to a trolley stop and the metro. We couldn't have found a more perfect location.

But what truly makes this hotel special is the staff....we met the owner Heleen and two of her staff - - Gonzalo and Ines. Each of them went out of their way to make dining, sightseeing, and shopping recommendations. I honestly have never met a more genuinely enthusiastic and nice group of hotel staff! The first night they recommended a nearby casual tapas / Fado bar. Of course in Portugal you must hear Fado..... ahead of time I was not convinced I would enjoy the "sad love song" music.....in person, it is breathtaking. The woman singing at this local Fado bar had an amazing passionate voice. We were stunned at how beautiful and enjoyable sad love songs could be! The tapas food was actually our favorite meal of the entire trip!

Each night there was wonderful dinner recommendation. For our last night Gonzalo found for us "the most amazing event ever"(to literally quote him!) ...... a live Fado concert by a famous Fado singer. It was so much fun to mingle with a crowd of local residents enjoying such beautiful music. Gonzalo also shared with us his most favorite park - R. de S. Pedro - where he and friends can spend the whole night talking. We experienced this park around midnight and people were just talking, enjoying the view of the city, and each other.

Chiado 16 was the perfect choice for us and I can't imagine anyone not enjoying it equally!

Room Tip: Historic view Superior suite beautiful Amalia double spacious and lovely

We went to Lisbon briefly on our honeymoon. We were delighted with the boutique accommodation here, and it's in a great central location. Lovely big clean rooms with stylish furnishings and amazing views. Breakfast is also fantastic.

The staff were excellent, and extremely helpful - a real pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended.

After travelling for nearly 24 hours, I arrived to the warmest welcome even though the multi-tasking receptionist was busy attending to guests in the breakfast room. She literally stopped her table rounds and practically ran to greet me. I had arrived well before check-in time but was shown to one of two absolutely spotless, modern and large restrooms where I could make a quick change and then head to my business appointment in the Bairro Alto.

When I returned to reception to store my luggage, I was given a key and, with a smile, was told "let me show you to your room ... I have one ready." And what a room! It was bright with sunshine, had the most spectacular panoramic view of the harbour, two large windows with cushioned seating ledges, a massive bed, two large sitting chairs, a good-sized closet, a safe, and air conditioning which was strong and cold. A hidden flat-screen TV electrically emerged from the bedframe at the touch of a button.

The bathroom was ultra-modern with a massive green smoked-glass shower, huge separate room for the commode, and a large white vanity with grooming accessories, not to mention double-windows that opened to that incredible harbour view. Monogrammed towels were plentiful and deep-plush soft. Beautiful, old plank wood flooring made it a pleasure to walk barefoot.

Yes, there is an in-room Nespresso machine for complimentary coffee, a mini-bar, and a large square glass bottle of water (which the receptionist offered to put in the mini-fridge.) The Wi-Fi signal is 5-bars, reliable and free. The white cotton bed sheets and numerous pillows were luxe. The king size bed was made with military precision - you could have bounced a coin off it yet the mattress was not rock-hard nor too soft. And the whole room was clean, clean, clean and very quiet, except for the romantic rumble of street cars in the distance. (This is Lisbon, after all.)

I was the last guest for breakfast but my place was set at a table with a crisp white table cloth and napkin. As soon as I sat down, a glass of freshly-squeezed orange juice, a large china pot of coffee, a basket of huge bakery breads, and a plate of cold ham and cheese arrived almost all at once. A special order of scrambled eggs was no bother to prepare and it, too, arrived at the snap of a finger, and steaming hot.

Hotel stays are often memorable when they're bad. But the Chiado 16 will be memorable because it stands out as a rare jewel with exemplary service, a unique combination of historic and new room design, a quality breakfast and competent, energetic, genuine and charming staff.

Spent 4 nights here recently and it was perfect. We had a big, beautiful, quiet, comfortable apartment with a kitchen, washer/dryer, wireless, ipod dock and everything else you might need. Perfect location. Everyone in Lisbon is friendly and the hotel staff is especially so. They really went out of their way to be welcoming and helpful. They had great recommendations on restaurants and things to do, including a great local place for Fado. The breakfast was also excellent. Lisbon is a wonderful city and this is the perfect base from which to explore it.

Room Tip: Go for the apartments. For the size and quality, compared to anything similar in other major Europe...
