“Very good dinner but fado not so much”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2014

We went there last week just before Easter. Service is perfect, food is very good and as fado is included, it is priced similarly to other fado houses of this class. However i was disappointed with the fado singers. Firstly, they come out in very extended intervals. So the first singer came out at 9pm and as I realised the first singer is usually the youngest and with least of a voice. Second one came probably 40 min after the first one left and this lady had a presence and a voice and when she was getting the audience merry, she left unfortunately. 40 min later the third singer arrived and although she must have been the most experienced fado singer of them all, her voice unfortunately showed evident signs of years of smoking with no resonance at all. When this lady finished her show, it was already midnight, we felt it's time to call it a night. Overall a lovely ambience, many Portuguese in the audience which is always a good sign, and more fun because they typically will join in (and already started to join in the song with the second singer). If you are more interested in the dinner than in fado, then it's the place for you. But if you really want to hear great voices, then probably not.

“Good but pricey. ”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2014

there is €15 performance charge perhead in this resturant to experience fado on top of the food bill. restaurant ambience was great & table setting quite formal. we had 3 course dinner. in lisbon bread & butter are not free. its to add into the bill. the seafood soups were fanstasticly delicious. seabass with green peppers rice was average. mango dessert & creme bruille was ok. the fado singers were all great & they apparently among the well known. fado was the reason we ended up here. our bill was €90 without alcohol. if it was not for fado we would rather spend a dine out somewhere cheaper. it was pricey for lisbon standard.

“wonderful food & fado in a historical location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2014

The restaurant is located in the old city in a lovely house with a story.
The food is excellent - we have tried all the veal receipts - and also the wines.
There were two fado sessions with 3 songs per session which we find to be perfect in timing and very good quality.
Not last to be mentioned, the service was great, every person we've been in touch was fast, efficient, helpful and discreet.
Excellent choice for an evening in Lisboa!

“Great Fado experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2014

This was a great experience! The setting is beautiful. The restaurant is place is a renovated palace and the decoration really contributes to the experience. The food is good, but not exceptional. The fado singers on the oher hand are exceptional! They have a good range of Fado singers (male, female, modern, classic) and the gitar players were awesome! Some of the portugese guest started crying during some of the performances. Apparantly we even had a Fado singeres celebrity preforming to us (according to our portugese friend). This was a great experience and I can recommend it to anyone who wants to listen ot Fado music,

“Fantastic Fado in a cool setting.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2014

I traveled to Lisbon with 17 high school students and we set aside an evening for dinner and fado at Casa de Linhares. We weren't sure which place to choose for fado, but knew we wanted it to be in the Alfama neighborhood and not solely for tourists. I was extremely pleased that we chose this place as we all enjoyed our food and the music. We had an 8:30 reservation and stayed until 11:30 or so. Although this was relatively pricey for us (around 60 Euros per person), that includes the music, which was excellent. All of us (even the picky eaters) enjoyed the food and the performances are spaced out throughout the evening. A singer would perform 3 songs and then there would be a period of time for dinner service before the next performance of 3 songs and so on. Throughout the evening, we saw 5 different singers with the same talented musicians. All were very talented and they saved the best for last - so stick around! It was a great way to see several singers (male & female) to get a good sampling of the way different performers approach the intense and heartfelt music. It was truly a special evening. Don't worry if you do not understand Portugese, the emotion conveyed really gets the message across! Additionally, the room itself adds to the experience, the high, vaulted brick ceilings make you feel as if you are back in time. Check out the wine cellar tucked in the back of the room. Service was professional. Not a place to rush through dinner. We had a hard time finding the restaurant, so give yourself extra time to wander the streets in search. We enjoyed the adventure as the Alfama is a cool area to wander. I'd go back again if I was in Lisbon!
