“One of the best hostels in the world”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2012

I've been lucky enough to travel the world and stayed in some great places and some not so great but i have to say this place is excellent, from the location to the staff and to the hostel itself. I stayed for two nights before me and a group of friends went to Optimus Alive festival. As i said earlier the location is spot on and the staff are very helpful. I'd recommend the bar crawl the hostel does because its great to meet other people and check out the Lisbon nightlife. Lisbon as a city is fantastic.

Room Tip: I had no problem with the room i was in and that was on the 3rd floor over the street outside.

Centrally located, Knowledgeable staff, friendly atmosphere.. can't get much better than that. This hostel is located in the heart of Lisbon, with lots of charm and potential. Breakfast is included and the rates are very reasonable. Definitely worth staying in.

Lovely helpful staff who went out of their way to help- directions to the best places to eat and helping plan day trips to Sintra. Breakfast was a highlight with fresh made scrambled eggs and toast!

This hostel is superb, we were walking distance to train, bars, restaurants and everything we needed. We got collected from the airport (thanks Charles) and even got a mini tour thrown in to the drive back home. Staff were friendly and full of recommendations of what to do and where to go. We did the segway tour that was available, 2 hours for 20 euros and it was the best money we have ever spent! SO much fun and such a better way to tour the city, hopping off to look at the cathedrals and stuff.
Breakfast was also included in the very cheap price, the 3 of us had rented a 4 person room just for privacy. Only scrambled egg or jam etc with toast but pretty good considering the price and the fact it was a hostel! We were told not to make too much noise after a certain time and came back slightly worse for wear but didn't experience anyone telling us to quieten down!
The one downside was the first morning we were woken up by some loud noise going on outside as the windows let in a bit of noise but generally very comfortable and clean. They also had ipads available for if the two computers were in use and travel books, chess sets etc for people wanting just to chill there (though Lisbon has so much to offer we just used it as a base!).
From the looks of some of the negative reviews, people were expecting a 5 star hotel. This is a hostel so don't expect the world but it was a very good one!

I stayed in two different hostels in Lisbon, it is hard to say which one is better because they are all amazing and each one has their own touch. This one for example has an amazing living room where you can just chill for a while, the rooms are also great. The Pub Crawl is a perfect and organized tour where you meet a lot of people without complications, they have it vary well organized and it is incredible how can they manage so many people in Lisboa streets without loosing anybody. Specially the thin guy without hair (that I do not remember his name) He is an amazing host.

Room Tip: I stayed in the first floor without complaints

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2012

We stayed in "Travellers House" for 6 nights in June 2012, after having read so many positive reviews. Here´s our opinion:

~Location~
Located in Rua Augusta, you won´t be able to find a hotel which is better located. A few steps to Rossio, a few steps to Praca do Comercio (and the Tejo), a few steps to the bus/tram/train stations. But this also means that you can´t sleep with an open window without ear plugs. But apart from that, it´s perfect.

~Rooms~
We had a double room on the 4th floor, which means that we had to share the bathroom with only 3 other people. It´s like to share a flat with somebody - you have a "common door", a little kitchen, living room with TV, a small balcony (nice view!!). Shower and toilet are separated rooms!

Our room itself was very clean, with a fan and a window to the backyard. We slept very well on the matress. People who don´t like getting awaked from the rising sun, i would recommend a sleeping mask, because our curtain was not dark enough. But we didn´t mind.

The only thing they could improve is the space and more furniture to lay your things on. We had no closet, just a little cupboard. To little for 2 people staying six nights, in our opinion.

~Staff / reception~
The staff was sooo helpful - excellent. When we arrived, a guy was showing us around, explaining how everything works. No matter what we asked them, they gave us so much information, showing us things on the map etc. It wasn´t a problem to have a shower in the afternoon the day we checked out, that was also great. Couldn´t be better. Reception is 24h, by the way.

~Breakfast~
Well, for a HOSTEL it was okay, but nothing more. Toast, eggs, jam (only one kind), cornflakes and honey. Not everybody likes "sweet" breakfast, and after six days you want something else. Don´t understand why they change the jam, at least. The ladies who prepare the toasts and eggs are friendly, though, but when my boyfriend bought some ham and took it from the fridge the next morning, one of them gave him a very odd look, like he was doing something very rude.

The "dining room" is quite small - only 16 people can have breakfast at the same time. The couch you sit on is quite outworn, und you sink in it like candyfloss. Not very comfortable when you´re eating.

~General impression~
Nice staff and a very very nice interior! I would design my own flat like this! They offer a lot of stuff, like tours to Sintra / Segway tours etc (which we didn´t do). Very very clean - they changed the towel in the bathroom about 3 times a day ;-)

In our opinion, it´s a really good hostel, but not "the best hostel worldwide". We had much better hostels for less money in OZ and NZ. Breakfast ist boring after a few days, and there was too less space in our room. If you don´t have a problem with that, go there and you will have probably the best stay in Lisboa.

P.S. There´s no option to give three and a half points, so i chose four ;-)
