“Comfortable, quiet and close to the cathedral”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2012

Brand new hotel, clean, comfortable, quiet and close to the Cathedral, it is a great option for pilgrims in Fatima. Service is attentive and food is good enough. They cared of me since my arrival in Lisbon, providing direct transfer from the airport to the hotel for a reasonable price. An addictional advantage is that, in front of it , just crossing the street, there is fantastic coffee shop. Definitely worth checking out.

I stayed as part of a pilgrimage group between 3 - 10 October and we had a great time. Of course the food is going to be slightly different to home and the first night, the food was tough and the service slow, but after that every morning, afternoon and evening the service was better. The buffet breakfast was very good with a great selection. The afternoon meal was so big that most times I skipped the starter or the dessert. The evening meal was very good, only once did I not like the choice, it was fish and I do not eat fish, but an alternative was given by the waiter, Merry Christmas. I did not realise how close we were going to be to the sanctuary, but as there an number of infirm pilgrims, it was lucky we were. Each evening we were able to go to the candle light procession and the walk back wasn't too long. The rooms was lovely and it was great to have a fridge in the room, the only draw back, when we took out our key card, the fridge stopped working too. And we only received one key card, so I had to stay with Mum at all times as one of us held the card. If I was going to Fatima again, I would definitely recommend the Santa Maria hotel.

My husband and I stayed at this beautiful hotel for 2 nights with a group we were travelling with. There was a lot of people and activity here as to be expected as Fatima is a very important pilgrimage area, however beacause of the spaciousness of the hotel I never felt that we were overcrowded. The hotel is new, modern and architecturally designed to create areas of open spaces and light, giving a sense of peace to the weary traveller and pilgrim. We stayed in a twin room which was large and very comfortable. We had a view of the Cross of the sanctuary right outside our window. The bathroom was very large also, spotless with nice amenities provided. The hotel does provide complimentary wi-fi however our room was out of range, so we had to come down to the lobby to access it, which was not a problem. Breakfast was nice. I would recommend eating in for dinner. We did and it was most enjoyable. The evening meals were exceptional with the staff being very attentive making sure we were all well feed. The level of service by the staff in the dining room was excellent. You really are made welcome and are very well looked after. The hotel is a very short walk to the Sanctuary. Our stay here was a 5 Star experience for me. Thank you to the staff at Hotel Santa Maria. I hope to return one day.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2011

We stayed here on October 10th not thinking that we would be affected by the Pilgrimage. WRONG! Due to road closures, we could see the hotel, but we could not get to it. We eventualy had to have the local police help us (who were very helpful). The hotel itself is huge, and a base for bus tours. Although it is new, clean and nicely decorated, it very impersonal. Service in the bar and dining room was very slow. The food in the restaurant was very mediocre. We would not have eaten dinner in the hotel, except that it was Sunday and many local restaurants were closed. The town was so crowded that it wasn't worth trying to walk around anyway. On a positive note, the room was nicely decorated, very clean and good value. This hotel has good secure underground parking.

This hotel seems very new and is big, clean and quiet. You are at the sanctuary in a couple of minutes.

Our room was very clean and comfortable.

We ate a couple of dinners in the hotel (one was included in our tour, the other was independent), and the food was pretty good. The dining room staff works very hard, but they are really understaffed at breakfast and basics like water run out quickly.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2011

My 2 night stay at Santa Maria Hotel in Fátima was great, I highly recommend this hotel.

I was in a group of seven people and we've booked four rooms, all of them had a great size but mine was extraordinarily BIG as you can see in the pictures. I must say all rooms have really nice beds and extremely high quality bed linen.

The bathroom is great and mine had shower area separated from bath area, definitely a plus! Bathroom amenities and towels were great.

The staff is extremely corteous and professional, from reception to restaurant all of them were always smiling and attentive.

The only reason it doesn't get 5/5 is the breakfast. It's far from meeting the expectations created by the rooms' standard. I've recently stayed in four diferent 4 stars in Portugal and it was by far the worse. It would be adequate if you're in USA as the breafkasts in USA are really below any expectation but really poor for Portugal's standards.

Room Tip: The "PLUS" rooms are really worth the extra € 10.
