“Fantastic - Full review”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2011

I've been at the Design Room. First it was amazing to see the first look of the room. The bed is huge! It had a very nice view, but no balcony. The furniture was quite nice also. The TV is not very big, but I think it has the proper size. It has many channels, no problem using them. The bathroom is quite big and nice too.

I've been looking around in many restaurants and the menu seamed to be always the same, everywhere I went. I found out that the best place to eat was definitely the Hotel's restaurant, "O Convite". Very nice menu and daily suggestions, and with a full dinner it would be close to 30€ per pax. With the treatment and quality we get there, I think it's CHEAP, when compared to surrounding restaurants.

We got access to the SPA, doing the sauna, turkish bath, tropical showers and the inside pool. It had also a small gym, but we were not attracted to use it because it's lack of privacy (in from of SPA's reception). We did 2 massages, both quite nice. The price is alright (aprox. 1€ per min), and at the end they offered us a tea and some biscuits even.

At the reception they were always very careful attending us like a real GUEST. We had internet access in the room by wire. The hotel wasn't too busy, so we had privacy and peace to do very nice holidays.

Unfortunately the hotel doesn't have a pool outside. It would be perfect if had it. I think it would be also very nice if there was a ring in the BAR, so every time we went there, it would be easier to call the barman.

Breakfast had a very nice variety, and rates for room service were not expensive by our experience (3€ per service).

Room Tip: Definitely choose design rooms. Don't EVER choose the classic. You will regret for the rest of y...

Following a busy 24 hours on pilgrimage at the fatima shrine it was wonderful to have use of the spa facilities before departing. All facilities were exceptionally clean and as it was only the two of us using them, it made the experience even better! Breakfast was included in the room price and was of a very high standard. It included some hot items, various breads, cereals, juices, fresh fruits, conserves, cold meats and cakes.
The service in the hotel was excellent, staff were very attentive and helpful.

Our room was on the first floor overlooking a busy road, which was noisy. We were in a Classic ( otherwise known as Old/ Not refurbished!), old style furnishings, bed linens etc. It was spotlessly clean , however the major let down was the air conditioning unit which was so noisy. The result of that was that very little sleep was had.

All in all though it was excellent value for money and I would definitely recommend but make sure you ask for a refurbished room!

Room Tip: Make sure you are not in a Classic room a.k.a. old/ not refurbished

Simply the best.
Great room (pay extra for a Junior Suite - it is well worth it)
Great welcome
Great food
Great position - just far enough away from the Shrine to be quiet but near enough to be easy to reach

My sister and I enjoyed our stay at the Dom Goncalo Hotel, although it was just one night. The staff were extremely helpful, nice and welcoming, always wearing a lovely smile on there face. We were also very impressed with the quality of food and the service at the hotel restaurant. The staff in the restaurant were also very nice and welcoming. We stayed at the Design room and it was roomy and very comfortable. The public areas are also very clean, tidy, modern and comfortable. Too bad that the Spa closed at 6:30pm on Sunday, which was quite early, and therefore we didn't get to enjoy the Spa/swimming pool which I'm sure should be nice too. The hotel is actually quite far away from the Basilica (at least 20 mins walk, although the hotel told us it was 10 mins). The price is very reasonable which includes a nice breakfast.
I would love to stay in this hotel if I go back to Fatima.

My 80-year old mother and myself (50 year-old woman) traveled to Fatima from New Jersey (USA) and had the pleasure to stay at Dom Gocalo. When we got to the hotel it was pouring rain and Magda, at the front desk immediately rushed to the door to help us with our luggage. Five days later, when we left, Magda and other staff members made a point to be at the front desk to say goodbye to us. What I am trying to say is that staying a Dom Goncalo felt like visiting friends - they were THAT helpful and pleasant. The location is great, we walked to the sanctuary 2 or 3 times a day and always enjoyed the walk. The SPA is really nice. The pool is VERY clean. Bring your own swim cap, as you are required to wear one when swimming or when using the hot tub. The steam shower and sauna are terrific. Inside the steam shower and sauna, they play wonderful new-age music that sounded like bossa nova to me. The room was very quiet and it had a large safe, which I need to put in my iPad, iPhone, iPod, Bose headphones, camera, passport, etc. The bathroom was big an modern. We ate most dinners at Dom Goncalo, since the first night we tried it and were impressed by the food and the service. We had wonderful langostinos (big prawns) twice, which they prepared according to our specifications and we also had very good shrimp and cod . Breakfast was included in our reservation and we were very glad to have selected that option. Every morning there was fresh fruit, fresh juices, eggs, bacon, ham, and a wonderful selection of cheese and bread. In addition they had marvelous cakes. Needles to say, we did not eat lunch while we were in Fatima. One of the nights we had a sandwich at the bar, instead of going to the formal restaurant. We found the service to be prompt.... but you had to ring a bell so that the waiter would know you were there. We are planning to return next year. God willing we will be able to, in the meantime the memories are great.

10/10 for this Hotel cannot make 1 complaint the staff are great and very helpful.
The food was lovely. Dined 3 nights in the Hotel over my week stay.
The room had a king size bed although a bit hard for me but the norm in most hotels.
The Spa area is excellent sauna; steam room tropical showers etc and again the staff are very friendly my massage was out of this world.
My only complaint is not about the hotel but about Fatima No English Signs or very little and no shopping areas around, lucky I was driving we had to travel to liera to do some shopping. 2 days in Fatima is enough.
Breakfast 10.10
Room 10/10
Dinner 10/10

Arrived early to enjoy the spa and the indoor pool and at first everything seemed ok. Get to the room, leave the bags and went to the bar to have a light snack. First problem, the attendant wasn´t very attentive and looked annoyed for serving a toast and burger from the very poor options available. Came back to the room and went to the spa area where we had scheduled a duche vichy. My wife went first and I went to the indoor pool. After a couple dives, someone called me demanding a swimming cap informing that were mandatory. Where?!?! There wasn´t no information!!! More, the complaint was made by other costumers that were in the pool. The detail, I cut the hair with machine 1, so, no hair! After this situation all the rest of the stay was boring and not enough for me. I´m fair and the room was ok for a 4* hotel with good facilities, but cannot give a better rate after experience those 2 situations. The breakfast is average, should have more options and the reposition should be faster (had to wait more than 10 minutes for replacement of fruit and juice). Despite the situations informed, I´m advising this hotel to clients and friends.

Dear Sir,
The Boutique Hotel Dom Gonçalo team truly apologise for not being able to meet your expectations. We do not understand the failure at the bar, as we do not include burguer in the bar menu. We do serve it at the Restaurant wich we assume was not opened yet by that time. The use of a swimming cap is in fact mandatory because of hygiene precautions. It is written in our web site, in all on line booking systems, in the informations book in every room and at the entrance of the changing rooms at the Spa (in english language). Usually the staff at the reception desk in the Spa, also mentions it . We will check and act as to avoid these failures in the future, in a continuing pursue of high standards of service. We thank you very much for your review and will try hard to make your next stay with us a truly enjoying experience.
