“Very good hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

This is a charming hotel in Estoril, just a few minutes walk from the beach. It is in a good area and the staff is very helpful. The rooms are clean, quite small but they have got what you need. The breakfast is also very good!

I brought a group of ten to Estoril and we stayed at the Saboia. Based on the three-star rating and the fact that I was bringing a group of students, I expected indifferent, even disdainful, service. Described as a boutique hotel but costing EUR40 a night, I had imagined a Motel 6 that was trying too hard. I was wrong.
From the moment we walked in the door we were given first-class treatment. My requests regarding room arrangements for the students had been honored, including removing all alcohol from the minibars. The staff called taxis for us, gave us advice on where to eat and how to get there, and went out of their way to make our time enjoyable. They really seemed to enjoy tourists and helping tourists make the most of their time in their beautiful city. I was especially impressed with their attitudes towards our students, understanding when they locked a key in the room or left something in the lobby.
Our group occupied most of the second floor. The room decor is chic, although there are a few odd choices, and the carpets could use replacing in some rooms - but nothing that made me want to leave. On the down side, some rooms smelled of stale smoke, and I'm not sure what the hotel's smoking policy is, but I know on a couple of occasions I smelled fresh smoke seeping from a neighbor's room. Fortunately, mine did not smell. Beds were comfortable, hot water was plentiful, complimentary breakfast was quite good, and free wi-fi - none of the neighboring hotels offer that. As to hotel clientele, we saw a number of young couples on romantic holidays. One evening we saw several elderly couples elegantly dressed for a night on the town.
If you haven't decided where in Lisbon to stay, Estoril is a lovely, safe, quaint town with easy access to transportation, shopping, and restaurants. I hope to return some day and when I do, it will be to the Saboia. It is an outstanding value for the money.

Room Tip: As of Nov. 2012 first floor rooms don't seem to have been renovated yet.

My husband and I stayed here for three nights and choose the romantic package as it wasn't much more expensive. We had a room 609 which had a balcony with stunning views over the Atlantic which we enjoyed whilst sipping our complimentary bubbly and pastries. The location itself is perfect, only about 10 minutes away from the seafront and the train station where there are regular trains to Lisbon and Cascaius. There was also a local bus service up to Sintra and a one day travel pass costing 5 euros covers you not only up to Sintra but also all around the town. There are lots of good restaurants in Cascaius which is only about a 15 to 20 minute walk away along the promenade and we also had a nice meal in a small local restaurant only a couple of minutes walk away from the hotel called Tertulia do Monte. The staff were friendly, speaking good English and the breakfast good.

Overall this is a lovely hotel in a great location from which to explore the Lisbon area.

I actually checked online before making a reservation and given the opinions on here, I was expecting something cosy and welcoming with an above standard decor in the room. It was very disappointing! We had the romantic package and according to the website the room was supposed to be decorated in rose petals... there were none. The bathrooms were supposedly updated... maybe in the early 90s? Oh, and the "double bed" was two twin beds squashed together with a king size sheet over the top. Additionally, they sold the idea of a welcome drink, which silly me had a picture of a little something in the room, but it's actually a decanter of something similar to port in the reception lobby (which is there all day) AND we were only told about it when I complained, it was not offered to us upon our arrival.
The food at breakfast was ok and the swimming pool looked clean. The room was also clean and the towels (despite small and old) were also very white.

With Aeorbus from airport to trainstation (30 minutes), took the train to Monte Estoril station (30 minutes), from there a few steps up the hill (5 minutes) and we arrived at the renovated hotel for a week stay. The room at the first floor was small but cosy with a perfectly working newly airco. Because of the good weather in september you only need the room for sleeping. The staff at the reception was friendly and very helpfull. We needed a cheap reliable rent-a-car for a day and they arranged everything for us. The streets around the hotel are relatively busy but not a great problem at night. Breakfast is great with lots of choices from bacon and eggs to healthy yogurt.
On the other side of the hotel is a nice little park with a nearby shop and bar. Downhiil you have the small trainstation from the Lisbon - Cascais line, a few miles from downtown Estoril. Every 20 minutes you can take a train both ways.
There is a beautiful long boulevard with a few nice and clean public beaches between Estoril and Cascais along the Atlantic ocean. Weekends are very busy but relaxed. Its perfect for a romantic walk late afternoon watching the locals conquer the high oceanwaves and finally have some diner at one of the numerous fish resaurants. Safety is guaranteed by the presence of police on a scooterbike.
Within a 20 minute walk from the hotel is the town of Cascais worth visiting. By car we made a one day trip to ancient Sintra and the most western spot in Europe at Cabo de Roca, a breathtaking place.

Spent 3 nights in the hotel with my 2 sisters. Arrived 11am as had early morning flight - had requested early chech-in & our room was ready inspite of the hotel being extremely busy. Our room was small & with the extra bed space was tight - but everything else more than made up for the lack of space. The staff at reception & in the breakfast room & coffee bar were top class & nothing was too much trouble I want to give special mention to Antonio Diego who was the most efficient & pleasant waiter I have ever come across. The hotel is 5min walk from the train station & prom/beach & everywhere is very accessible. Don't take the bus to Cascais - it goes around the world & a nerve wracking experience!! - taxis are very cheap. Will hopefully return in the not too distant future. A gem!

Room Tip: Ask for room with a balcony - most rooms have them

As previous reviews mention, the rooms are relatively small, although for the price are quite adequate. Despite the hotel not being full, we were given a room without a balcony, overlooking the road, which was quite disappointing.

The decor is nice and modern and the bathrooms look fresh, although not an awful lot of storage space for clothes etc.

Rooms were cleaned and beds made every day, which was nice.

Tea and coffee making facilities would also be nice, but unfortunately, no added extras really.

Food was also good, although you had to go searching for a staff member to serve you, rather than them being around all the time. The hotel bar also wasn't staffed in the lounge, meaning that you had to go downstairs to the cafe to get drinks.

Reception staff were very good and extremely helpful.

Finally, didn't have significant problems finding a parking space outside the hotel, although during peak season, I would expect this might become more of an issue.

About 15 mins walk either way to Cascais or Estoril, or a cab ride, which is around 5 Euro.

All in all, a nice break.
