“Good location, great staff, wonderful food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

We stayed our last 3 nights in Portugal at Hotel Arribas. We were initially going to stay in the town of Sintra but I'm glad we chose a more tranquil place with Sintra a short drive away for a day trip. All rooms have ocean views and we enjoyed listening to the surf day and night. Air conditioning didn't work in the room (we reported it but it didn't get fixed) however it wasn't a big deal as it cooled down at night and we slept with the door open (although surf was VERY loud!) Staff is very accommodating and helpful with driving directions and restaurant suggestions. Largest sea water pool in europe (100 m) and nobody was in it as it is late in the season. The beach is rather dirty along the wall / street side (lots of garbage a cigarrette butts) which is a shame, but the sand is very nice if you park yourself closer to the water's edge. Undertow can be very strong when tide is going out, so a bit dangerous for young kids. Would recommend this in off season but it might be very crowded in the summer.

Situated on the beach. On a small hill. Breath taking views. Beautiful walk ways, small cafes, friendly people all around, grab the local beer anywhere. Visit Mar Bar close by and a few other bars. Walk on the beach bare foot in the middle of the night . Open the window to hear the sound of the waves. Surreal. Wake up fresh to some some great breakfast. You have some amazing people working there...always smiling and friendly. I almost fell in love with the beautiful lady who welcomed us in. Walk around the place, catch the tram to sintra. Walk around..catch the nite life there. Get back to the hotel , relax by the pool, get a drink. Theres a bus stop right in front of the hotel. Good connectivity to sintra railway station. Easy access to Lisbon too. I got back home happy, refreshed, peaceful and energised. Hope to return there soon!

Room Tip: Since the rooms are all sea facing, the afternoons in the hotel can be pretty hot. So either stay ou...

Relaxing place a little ways from Sintra center (15 minute cab ride, but I'd suggest renting a car). The beach is absolutely amazing, and there are a lot of great places for seafood in town. Quieter and probably more for an older crowd with not much night life in the area, though there was one place close by that was open relatively late and a fun time without having to venture all the way to Sintra center or Lisbon.

We stayed for one night at the Hotel Arribas in Sintra, Portugal. The view from the balcony was breath-taking with the pool first then the sea behind it. The staff were courteous and the food was excellent. A great base for exploring Sintra which was beautiful.

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea view

Hotel is a bit remote from anywhere so it's best to have a car. There is not a lot to do in the surrounding area. However, if you want a comfortable hotel to hide away in and relax then the Arribas is for you. The hotel is clean and the rooms are very spacious with large balconies - all overlooking the ocean and pool area. The food is very good but the service can be slow if the restaurant is busy. The breakfast buffet is only continental so if you like your fry ups then you will need to go out for breakfast. However, eggs cooked in various ways are on offer at an extra cost. The staff are friendly and helpful. We visited mid September and although the weather was still hot the mornings at the hotel were usually cloudy but sunshine in the afternoons. Go round the cliff to the left of the hotel and the sun appears. The sunsets are pretty spectacular.

Room Tip: Hire a car unless you like walking holidays. The local bus service is very good.

It's probably not the general look of this place, the simple but clean rooms, the huge saltwater pool, the average food in the restaurant... No, it's the location! Sitting on the restaurant / bar terrace or on the balcony of the room with a bottle of wine is just AWEsome. A morning walk on the beach, breakfast on the terrace, a huge pool, free parking and very friendly and helpful people at the reception make the Arriba a winner.

We stayed here for two weeks and it was the perfect place to stay and take day trips to Lisbon, Sintra and Mafra. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating, the hotel is very clean and comfortable and is furnished like a typical beach hotel. The salt pool is incredible. We spent time on the beach or on day trips and then spent the rest of the afternoon at the pool. All of the rooms have oceans views. The only cons would be the lumpy pillows and the wifi didn't work in our room. You have to sit in the lounge or cafe to use it. If you stay here be sure to bring mosquito repellent.

Room Tip: All of the rooms have ocean views.
