“A must!! great cute town. very pretty, nice beaches...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

Next time I will stay in Cascais longer and day trip to Lisbon.

I had been worried reading that Cascais was over-developed and resorty. Well, it is not tacky at all and is very upscale. Think Capri, Cannes or Mykonos. Lots of tourists, but there is a reason for that.

Charming old town, with cobblestone winding streets to get lost in. Old buildings, outdoor restaurants around open squares, lots of beaches, a marina, museums,,,, So what if on the way to town you pass a macdonalds? and, there are some designer boutiques on the outskirts.

Overall, the town retains its charm, and doesnt have loads of tacky cheap t-shirt and postcard stores (has some, not overrun with them).

Great base to visit Sintra as well.

“Kind of expected more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

I visited Cascais based on the recommendations found here and was expecting a sort of rustic, old fishing village. What I found was a more or less generic seaside tourist-oriented town with a nice beach.

“Very classic and typical place at the hearth of Lisbon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

Chiado is a place formed by several streets converging to a square. You have the main street called Chiado and there you have lots of Portuguese attractions like café Brasileira and lots of good shops. Served by the underground you can easy go to other places in Lisbon after the visit. This block was destroyed by a fire in 1988 the block was completely rebuild in its original.

“If you have a day to spend, spend it in Cascais”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

Cascais is a town west of Lisbon (train from Lisbon centre to Cascais centre: about 30 minutes) situated like an amphitheatre facing a picturesque bay full of boats of all sorts.
The train from Lisbon will take you along the Tagus with great river and oceanic views most of the time.
Once you arrive go to one of the many restaurants for a cheap chicken menu or a not so cheap fresh fish dish. There are lots of options in between. You decide whatever your credit card allows you to do.
If you are not the restaurant type and just want to get to know the place, rent a bike (BICAS) for free right outside the railroad station.
If you are a beach person, there is a place for you too, either 150 meters from the train station or further away up the coast with some hard pedalling on your BICAS.
That all folks!! Just do it!
