“Great food, location, value, staff, and owner!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

Kathy and I dined in Cascais for two months, and our most enjoyable, most memorable meals were at Paula's "number 28" (as we called it). Paula is a warm, friendly, intelligent, artistic woman who is a great cook as well. Her charming restaurant is spotlessly clean, nicely decorated, well staffed, and serves up wonderful Portuguese (along with some choice international) meals. Somehow Paula manages to create unique, delicious food and still find ample time to chat with patrons in need of advise, local history lessons, and Portuguese language help (she speaks numerous languages). Paula is much more than just a restaurant owner. She is a person of many endearing qualities of character as well, qualities that rise up out of her conversations in a subtle, honest-to-goodness kind of way, very much like the food she places before us. "Number 28" will be our first stop as soon as we return to Cascais next year. It should be yours as well.

“Intimate and friendly with great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013 via mobile

This small restaurant in a tucked away location near the beach was the high spot of our stay in Cascais. The food is Portuguese and more imaginative than that available in most of the tourist restaurants. Limited choice guarantees fresh ingredients cooked to order. Very friendly welcome and Paula was very happy to chat giving us lots of tips for our stay. Very reasonable price. Best we encountered in the town.

“Please keep this a secret...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

I really don't want to share our little secret with you...afraid you'll take my table one of these days when I really need it. Cascais is home to a thousand restaurants, yet we return here again and again, drawn to Paula's culinary skills and 'pratos do dia' of soup, main and coffee for 7 euros. All is home made daily in her clean kitchen, served with attention and love in the modestly-sized modern dining room. Soups that warm your soul, sauces that gently flavor the food, portions sized for a good appetite and a dozens of choices on the regular menu. Minutes from the Praia de Pescadore, a casual atmosphere.

“Great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

I went to this place 3 times in August 2012. Very freindly staff and a wide rang of food solution. Every time I went there I tried something else and I it got better every time. Finish the meal with one of the homemade desserts was the highlight. When we received the bill I had the impession they forgot some items as I went to many other restaurant in the area where we have paid 30 - 50% more (for poor quality food). The quality and value for money been just perfect, that's why I returend 3 times.

“Small Portions - Big Price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2012

This is a pleasant little restaurant located away from the town centre and not easy to find unless you know your way around Cascais - which fortunately, we did. Modernly decorated interior with some outside seating also. The owner / waitress / chef was very friendly and helpful. The menu had a reasonable number of selections all of which were interesting.

While indeed delicious, the meal can be summed up as; small portions, big bill, and anything but relaxed. The young assistant (the owner's son ?) lacked training and had our dishes whipped away far too quickly making the meal more of a race than a repast.

The prices were above average even more so in view of the small portions. Quality yes, quantity no.

In my opinion, where this restaurant also fails is having only one person cooking for many patrons and trying to meet and greet at the same time. It just doesn't work.
