“Amazing location, great design, worst service ever”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

We went to the Farol for lunch on our day trip to Cascais and were shocked by the service delivered. Originally we planned to stay at the Farol for two nights but due to high season / Portugese holidays it was fully booked with sky rocking prices. Therefore we decided to spoil oursleves with a nice lunch on their terrace overlooking the Atlantic. The location is amazing and was worth the 50+ lunch bill for two light salads, but the service was super slow and therefore very bad.

There where about 8-10 staff, but only one young lady was service oriented and trained. Ordering and getting two salads and two cocktails took about 45 mins. The Mediteranean salad was well prepared but kind of small, the caesars was far from what a CS should look like. I had a Wasabi Martini, which was a interesting experience, but again it took them forever to prepare.

Overall a nice place to sit and watch the Atlantic and enjoy the design, but service-wise not a place we would book for a future stay.
Seems the logistic of the hotel and the staff just don't work.

The Farol is a very nice design hotel, the location an the pool area are just awesome.
Unfortunately the rooms are not on a 5stars level but 4stars especially the bathroom were disappointing.
The service is very friendly but slow.
Anyway I would totally recommend the hotel even it is not cheap at all.

Room Tip: Sea view room in the new part of the hotel. The view from the terrace is just like a dream.

Just returned from the Farol where we had an absolutely beautiful lunch. We chose the set lunchtime menu called the Mix at 28 euros per head and well worth every cent. The setting is beautiful and we chose a table overlooking the ocean.
The service is first class and the waiters were attentive without being obtrusive.Firstly, we were brought freshly made rolls with olives, garlic butter and the speciality cheese of the region.Great start. A glass of wine was part of the set menu and both the red and white were beautiful.Sparkling water arrived in a cooler and was replenished at intervals and when one bottle was emptied another arrived without saying anything.
Our starter was a gorgeous cold soup, tomato with a hint of something but I don't know what.It tasted delicious and had a huge prawn in it.
Cod was the main dish with a perfectly cooked medley of vegetables. This also was delicious.
Dessert was to die for.Tiny parcels of Filo pastry filled with something heavenly with raspberries, a raspberry coulis and sorbet. Life just can't get any better than this!!!
Finally, the coffee arrived, however we wanted it and accompanied by a plate of the most delicious petit fours.Everything was included in the price.
A truly memorable lunch. We will be returning next week to savour it all over again. The restaurant fulfilled all our expectations. Many thanks to the staff.
Please try this restaurant for yourselves.I know you will enjoy it as much as we have done.

The crowd at the hotel consisted of rich euro trash with huge tattoos and Russians smoking. If that is your idea of a fun crowed, this place is for you!
Pros: great location, nice decor, beautiful ocean views, salt water swimming pool
Cons: air conditioning was not working in room and it took management a long time to fix, hotel is expensive and you don't feel you get your money's worth: room has not enough closet space, shower impossible to use while standing, no room to put toiletries in bathroom, no water bottles offered to guests, room doors are hard to open/close, smoking is allowed inside hotel at bar and the smell drifts to upper floors, service at restaurant was average with several mistakes in bill. You should expect more for a 250-300 euro place!

Room Tip: Sea view room nicer. Make sure air conditioning works!

We spend a long weekend here and on the whole had an enjoyable time. Reception / staff were all friendly. The location afforded a great ocean view, as long as you don't mind a 15-20 mins walk into town. Common areas lived up to the "design" tag of the hotel. On the negative side, the bathroom was very dated and didn't match up to the rest of the property. In addition the shower didn't have decent water pressure and sometimes wasn't hot. Breakfast was included in the room rate and was "ok", and could have been improved by the staff clearing unoccupied tables more quickly and restocking the buffet with crockery & food. Ordering early evening drinks in the pool area could be a little hit & miss whilst trying to get waiters attention to place orders. Would we return? Quite probably if we were in the area.

We stayed 2 nights at the end of a tour of Central Portugal at this hotel, primarily to be near the airport for our return home. We almost only stayed one night but are glad we stayed two. The location is superb, on the rocks above Cascais. It is possible to walk into town but we were happy eating in one of the 2 restaurants each night (one being Sushi). The food was excellent, and the service both in the restaurant and at the pool was very friendly and welcoming, although it could be a little slow.

In the full day we had in Cascais we drove over to Sintra to see some of the palaces there, the drive is very picturesque and only 15-20mins. There were good beaches nearby, but right in front of the hotel it was not possible to access the sea, but the view from the seawater pool was superb.

We stayed in a design room with balcony right above the restaurant. We went to bed relatively early both nights and slept soundly without being disturbed by noise from below. We were a little disappointed with the design of the room itself, it contains individual design touches, e.g. lamp shades, but is rather tired and the bathroom is somewhat small compared to other hotels of similar prices. IT is however, very clean and comfortable. The view from our room was of the ocean and made up for any disappointment with the room itself.

Very unique, romantic and stylish place. designer decisions dont interrupt very beautiful nature of the place, You dont notice details just feel how amazing atmosphere is,
Ideal place for romantic escape, but if you need some fun there is quite big night club as well in neighborhood.
Its really different from most of local very traditional hotels.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view room coz they are just amazing.
