Owner description: Silencetour provides segway guided eco-tours to small groups in the forest of Serra de Sintra, in Sintra-Cascais Natural Park.Unusually close to a major city like Lisbon, Sintra-Cascais Natural Park has managed to preserve throughout the territory surrounding the westernmost point of continental Europe and to coexist harmoniously nature and human presence, that, so near the capital, would inevitably make itself felt .In its territory, the park presents a stunning diversity of environments and landscapes, including sand dunes, forests, lakes, a rugged coastline where high cliffs are interspersed with lovely beaches, the imposing and Cabo da Roca, in the center, the magnificent Serra de Sintra and the entire area classified by UNESCO as a cultural landscape heritage of mankind. What can you see:From the point of view of the flora, fauna and geomorphology, this area is particularly rich and varied. Around the volcanic outcrop of Sintra on a land of origin of basalt, granite and limestone, grow many tree and shrub species, among which is still possible to find representatives of the primitive flora, such as oak, the executioner and the very characteristic nostalgia (Armeria pseudarmeria), which is endemic to the Portuguese flora.Among the most common animals are, the wild rabbit, fox, kestrel-to-back-tabby, badger, weasel, snake-ratter and dozens of bird species, and to highlight some rare examples of eagle-de-Bonelli and Peregrine falcon.

“The highlight of my Portugal holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

This is a nice adventurous, activity in the natural park that was a pleasant contrast to the site seeing we were doing in Lisbon. The location is perfect, near the Sintra castle, spectacular views all around, forest is beautiful, the fresh air is fantastic. The actual segway is super easy to use for beginners, stable, fun and gives a cool alternative to visit the park beside hiking :)
I chose the 1 hour tour and 5 minutes into the trip wished that I picked the 2:30 tour as it was so much fun! Amazing value for money 30 or 50 euro per person and the tutorial was perfect, informative and friendly. If I had more days in Lisbon I would come back :) :)
Vasco is absolutely great. He was very professional and friendly at same time, like he was touring with us. He explained about the history of the place, the fauna/flora on the way, stopped for viewpoints and was a very sweet person! He kindly accommodated all of our requests for the tour!
Totally recommended, for kids and adults, you will have a memorable experience!

“Escape the heat & the crowds on this fabulous Segway trek”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

This is a great way to explore the quiet mountain trails behind the palaces and crowds of Sintra. Definitely do this tour, even if you have never been on a Segway before.

We went on a 2 hour tour at the end of July 2013. We are a family of 4 with 2 teenage boys, 15 and 17, plus me and my wife. Three of us had ridden Segways before, (only briefly and on the flat), but my wife had never tried out this unusual mode of transport, so she was understandably a little nervous. She needn't have worried. After a quick tutorial from Vasco in the car park, we were fitted with the necessary safety gear and began our 12km trek along the peaceful mountain trails of the Sintra National Park. It is a fascinating volcanic lanscape, mainly forested and with plenty of gradient. The trek is almost entirely on dirt roads around the forest, there are no other vehicles to worry about; I think we encounted only one other person on the whole trip.

Vasco soon puts everyone at ease, and is happy to help tow any tentative members of the party up or down any of the steeper bits. Vasco is wery knowledgeable about the geology and the nature around this part of the National Park, stopping regularly to point out various aspects of the lanscape, and to allow the group to take in the stunning views over Cascais and Lisbon. The Segways are really sturdy vehicles and you would be amazed at how sure footed they are on the mountain paths. It is hard to believe how much ground you can cover, and at first when Vasco points at where you are going to go, it seems a little ambitious. This is not the case, the Segways trundlle along quite happily at a brisk pace and are really easy to get the hang of. Even if you have never stepped on one before, don't worry, the biggest risk is likely to be over confidence. Obviously the competitive nature of our largely male party meant that there was a bit of racing creeping in and, as a result, we had a couple of 'step offs' and one proper 'fall off' but nothing which troubled the elbow pads too much.

This is a great way to spend a morning or an afternoon, peace and quiet, beautiful landscape and tremendous fun. You will go home feeling full of fresh air and with some unfamiliar aches in muscles of the lower leg that you didn't know you had. Best of all Vasco will have captured the whole trip and sent a CD to your home address to remind you of a great experience. Go for it!

“An absolute must do!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

This segway trip was one of the highlights of our holiday and I'd highly recommend it to anyone. Neither of us had ever been on a segway before so I was a little nervous about it. We got plenty of time to practice in the car park though and it's surprisingly easy to get used to!
Vasco was a fantastic guide - very knowledgeable, patient and easy going. His enthusiasm for his job is so evident and he made the trip so much fun.
Some parts of it are quite steep but Vasco will help you up/down them if needed. The views are just stunning and it's amazing how much terrain you can cover in the 2 hours.
One piece of advice is to take a sweatshirt with you, as it can be cold up in the mountains. And don't wear flip-flops as the terrain is quite rocky in places.

Vasco takes pictures and some video throughout the trip and we're looking forward to seeing them! This is a brilliant experience and an absolute must do if you're staying in the area.

Thanks a million Vasco - we'll be back!!

“Fantastic Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013 via mobile

Vasco is an incredible guide. We started out with a quick lesson in the car park before setting off on our 12km trip through the mountain trails. Vasco entertains with local history and his knowledge of nature in this, his "office".
Great fun and an absolute must do.. Thanks Vasco!

“Great way to spend an afternoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

We, a family of 4, had the pleasure of 2h with Vasco riding the hills of Sintra National Park. An eco system well worth visiting on its own merits but when you can do it riding all terrain Segways you should not hesitate. The views are stunning and Vasco is a very pleasant guy who knows "his stuff". One word of caution though - when you think you master the Segway, don't get carried away, take it easy and enjoy the ride...
