“Best beef !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2011 via mobile

This is beyond doubts the best beef restaurant in the region. Excellent and very friendly service, modern ambiente and wonderful choice of wines. Higly recommended. We are regular guests and have never been disappointed. For the wine, try "
Quinta das Marias" or other wines from the Dão region. Viseu is the centre of the Dão DOC region.

“Don't expect a full menu - this is the place for Arouquesa beef. Period.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2011

Great service, felt warmly welcome. Beef from Arouquesa cattle is the best native breed for beef production. I think that one can only find this beef in northern Portugal. Therefore, if you're going to this restaurant thinking that you'll have many choices, you'd better go somewhere else. I would go back tomorrow if I could!

“A reasonable offer for beef lovers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2011

Went to this place with friends. We were quite a large group, maybe 11 or 12 if I recall well.
One of the fellows had been there and recommended this place for lunch. Since he had reserved, we were immediately shown to our table, which was already laid out with typical local fare, such as cheese ('serra da estrela', creamy and fairly good), meat sausage (chouriço, unremarkable), some ham (too salty and tasting of industrial manufacturing), and both wheat and corn bread (above average).
The reason my friend had recommended this place was the quality of the meat, 'arouquesa' being a breed of cattle renowned in Portugal for its very tender meat.
We had two courses, one of grilled 'arouquesa' steak, which was very expertly grilled, succulent and tasty, and the second of 'arouquesa' veal baked in the oven, which in my opinion was even better, with excellent taste.
The choice of wines had been made previously, in the course of the reservation, some strong and flavorful red from the Douro region which went very well with such meaty dishes.
I skipped dessert, since I had had quite plenty on my plate with the two meat courses, and I cannot remember, much less comment, what other people had.
All in all a good choice, but - and this is a big but - only if one is really fond of beef. Not exactly my type of meal, but this was a group event.
Service is pretty lame, and I would not expect any of the staff to speak English or any other language, apart from Portuguese. The place is uncharacteristic and has no atmosphere.

“Too little and too pricy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2010

This is an average restaurant which promises more than it actually gives. It has a very limited choice (mainly two meat and two fish - on order, only) and a service which promised more. The plates are pften broken and the fries to oily.
Pesonly I think the fact of having only males serving is also a minus - the atmosphere is rather "blind date".
It is also very famous for large group of males and females to celebrate which makes it too noisy and not recommended for those who have children
