“Literally the only place worth staying in Coimbra!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

This hostel will rock your socks off if you are accustomed to sterile, questionably clean dorm rooms that cover Europe. The hostel has literally in the best location in Coimbra (though beware you will be dragging your bags/backpacks up several flights of cobblestone stairs)- next to Universidade, cute bars and shops. The reception is there for business hours and is only a phone call away otherwise. They also will explain everything right when you arrive so you feel safe and comfortable. Dorm rooms provide necessary privacy and comfort (lockers are provided, big bunk beds, electrical outlets on each bed, keys to rooms). Bathrooms are cleaned regularly though still shared by lots of people so bring necessary shower shoes. Ample common room space. As far as your average European hostel goes, I really, really enjoyed this hostel.

This is a stunning hostel with the qualities of a hotel. Completely renovated with big rooms, great shared facilities and clean and modern bathrooms. Considering the price I would recommend this any day!

This place is such a great hostel. It feels in between a hostel and a hotel- very clean, comfy beds, delicious breakfast (and you don't even have to wash up!) quite a good location in town- get your exercise walking up the hill! Nice staff and good value for money, very happy

This is a stunning looking hotel that is very clean and comfortable. The bathrooms have recently been refurbished and so are state of the art. The staff are amazingly friendly and helpful. Free WiFi is a bonus. It is right next door to the old cathedral in the heart of the upper town.
However, be warned this IS a hostel so it can be very noisy at times, some of the double rooms are very small and the breakfast is pretty basic.

... to say, since the hostel itself is fantastically beautiful with heigh ceilings, spacious rooms, wooden floor and tasteful new bathrooms. Now to the downside: The nights can be extremely cold from Oktober - March, and if you don't have the luck to fund additional blankets in your room, you might spend a night freezing and shivering.

On top, if you are really (!) unlucky, you'll be kept awake from 1am till 4:30am from the local student population which gathers at this place to sing traditional songs - obviously, the hostel claims that this happens only from time to time why they don't give any information beforehand.

We don't know if the singing indeed is as seldom as claimed, but but if you are the unlucky one - good luck, the double sound proofed windows don't help a bit and you even might invite those guys upstairs to sing in your room, perhaps it might help with the freezing.

Oh, and the breakfast - go to the central plaza and eat there.

A beautiful building very well decorated. The staff was very helpful and the girl who welcomed us, very late at night, was very nice!!
The all place was very well clean and maintained. The breakfast was fairly good in a beautiful dining room.

Serenata has an amazing view towards the old cathedral in Coimbra. Its hotel-like feel and modern design made me feel like I was staying in an above the average hostel. The building used to host a maternity, so the walls of the common spaces and the rooms are painted with babies, pregnant women and children dancing and playing musical instruments. I found that a bit odd. Breakfast wasn't spectacular. In general, a very feel-good place.
