The missus and I spent 3 days at Pete's in the middle of a mini tour round central Portugal. What a treat it turned out to be! The building is set in a traditional village which is populated by very friendly locals. The cafe 2 doors down is perfect for a (very cheap!) coffee or beer after a long day's exploring, or if you're feeling less adventurous there's a very well kitted out public barbecue / beach area a couple of minutes walk away. The bar there may be open too... if you're lucky!
The house is equipped with everything you might need, whatever your tastes - kayaks, bikes, a whole series of very useful maps and a vast collection of local info. We didn't get round to using the games room downstairs but there were plenty of consoles, dvd's, games and other distractions to play with. The rooms are comfortable and spacious and the bathroom is massive! (Excellent shower too). The kitchen has everything you'll need and everything is easy to find. The outside space is fantastic - we couldn't decide whether we preferred chilling out on the suntrap balcony or whiling away the evening in the terrace / garden area. Naturally, the views are second to none.
Honestly though, the best thing about Pete's Place is Pete himself. A natural host, he's so welcoming after about half an hour we felt as though we'd known him for years. His local knowledge is excellent and his enthusiasm for the countryside, the culture and area generally was infectious. We'll be back, without a doubt - thanks for having us!
